America's Army GGL sponsorship under attack

Good point Kalroy. How dare foreign governments not want their own citizens fighting a war another government started.

America's Army GGL sponsorship under attack

Apr 22nd 2007 12:03PM (Joystiq)
Right, because concern that the military is using video games to dupe children into going overseas for "adventure" and coming back missing limbs is something only left wing hippies would be angry about.

Actually, given the concern over video games being "murder simulators" one might imagine that using games for these ends might be harming the already battered reputation of the industry as whole.

And yes, they are volunteers but it's hard to imagine 17 and 18 year olds still pimply faced and fresh out of high school being able to fully grasp the political, historical, psychological, sociological, anthropological issues surrounding international strife and violence. As far as "geriatric" fighters are concerned, nice one. The real reason kids are recruited to fight is that adults are less likely to be willing to put themselves in harms way for their government? Why? Because at 17 and 18 your brain hasn't finished growing and higher level reasoning functions have yet to fully develop. For an 18 year old being told they are "defending the country" is enough, despite the obvious flaws in statement like that.

I'm shocked and appalled that no one here mentioned the mighty Ico. Games are art? Yes. Yes they are.

Army: Gamers can "take this to the next level" with military service

@ rrittle

Terrorists who use children as human shields? How old is the overage army recruit again?

Not that I'm implying anything.

"War as a videogame, what better way to raise the ultimate soldier?"

You just had to go and open your big mouth Kojima.

DS Daily: Welcome, new DS owners!

Personally I don't like the size difference. I realize Konami had to make them smaller to fit inside their greatest hits case, but really, you practically need baby fingers to push the buttons.

The Grand Theft Auto IV trailer

Mar 29th 2007 10:52PM (Joystiq)
Well... as a stand alone trailer it was fine. We got a little teaser for GTA IV. Possible hints as to gameplay elements (smuggling people?) and some nice (assuming ingame) shots.

But.. was it really worth the deafening hype? I mean, a 30 minute countdown clock on TV and that was all we get? It's not like GTA needs the exposure anyway, why would Rockstar blow all that money and a trailer that was less than a minute long? I'm excited about this, no more excited than I was prior to the trailer. Seems like a waste.

Japan gets five more PS1 games

Mar 29th 2007 2:19PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Agreed. You know this is the single reason I haven't bought a PSP yet. I want one, alot, and one of the selling features (I kid you not) is the ability to download old PS1 games. Until they let me do it directly from a PSP my 200 bucks is sitting nice and comfy in my wallet.

When will Sony realize that forcing consumers to buy crap merchandise they don't want (i.e. PS3) in order to access something they do isn't a good business strategy? That companies management needs a serious shakeup. Are you listening shareholders?

DS Daily: Toward handheld dominance

Mar 25th 2007 1:34PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Agreed with Frip. As much as I love my Wii I haven't been impressed with this generation. Apart from Smash Brothers and Fable 2 I'm not excited about anything coming out on the consoles. Even the might Metal Gear Solid hasn't wowed me.

To be honest, if it wasn't for the Wii's odd controls I probably wouldn't have bought it, and I predict this will be the generation I bow out of the console race. I find with the DS (and even the PSP) the games are more daring, inventive and much more engrossing than anything in front of my TV. Portable gaming is where it's at right now.

Agatha Christie adventure game to mysteriously appear on Wii

Mar 20th 2007 10:38PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'm really looking forward to a slew of new adventure games. I'll pick up some of the ports to show my support, but then I'll be expecting some original stuff. Nintendo better not disappoint. :)
