WoW Rookie: What is a patch?

Mar 11th 2008 12:14AM (WoW)
A miserable little file of secrets?

Submerge: subtitles for your Apple TV, iPod, iPhone

@Steven

Nope - as long as the subtitle file would normally be loaded in QuickTime Player via Perian, if you do the "QuickTime Decoding" option, it'll automatically be added, because at that point Perian is handling the video and automatically adding the subtitles.

Another solution can be done thanks to Perian and applications like Visual Hub. If you already have Visual Hub, if you load a video file in that has a Perian-supported subtitle file along with it, clicking "Force: QuickTime Decoding" in the advanced options will result in the subtitles being part of the video.

So, after conversation to whatever format, the subs will be hard-coded onto the resulting video.

HD DVD casualty report: over 1m players, recorders, and drives lost to the format war

"Thanks Toshiba and Sony!"

And Sony? How it is Sony's fault that Toshiba continued to push their format when the tide was more and more heading in Blu-ray's favor? How is it Sony's fault that Toshiba continued to push HD-DVD when Blu-ray by far had more industry support?

Christ Ryan... it's fine that you guys are HD-DVD fanboys, but you really need to get off of the anti-Sony kick you're on.

Breakfast Topic: Should vanity gear be implemented in the game?

Feb 9th 2008 9:32AM (WoW)
Games like World of Warcraft, at the end of the day, are all about your personal character, correct? We struggle to level to make our characters better, we search for gear so that they don't look like hobos, we find pets that work well but, also, look damn cool when matched with our characters.

The current gear situation in WoW is utterly terrible in my opinion. Until level 70, you often do look like a complete hobo, simply because you've pieced together gear that works well for your class, and that's your major concern. You then hit 70, and start collecting the sets... just so you can look like everybody else of your class at 70. Totally boring.

I think, from the very beginning, gear should be about what pieces you want to use looks-wise first, and THEN be about modifying those pieces with easy (or hard) to find upgrades that make them more power and uber-l33t. I've spent 63 levels looking at my character look like a complete mismatch of armor types... why should I have to wait until I'm 70 before I'm allowed to look cool (for longer than a few levels, until the pieces I've somehow put together are suddenly outdated)?

Here come the MacBook Pro mockups: get yours in before it's too late

Being a lover of the TiBook, and an absolute hater of the current PowerBook/MacBook Pro design, I could totally go for something like that.

Does anybody pay attention to World Defense?

Feb 5th 2008 4:32PM (WoW)
PVP server, and I actually pay attention to World Defense. For the longest time (actually, until I was high enough to reach Outlands), I had my hearthstone set to Azure Watch, and if any Horde were screwing around in the Draenei starting area, I'd heath and go see if I could help out. Because, dammit, I don't want no Horde scum touching our home! *heh*

I tend to be much more interested in world PVP than BG, so if I see something going down via the channel somewhere that I'm near, I'll go check it out.
