Is Disney Hiding Copies of 'Tron' From Potential 'Tron: Legacy' Moviegoers?

Nov 16th 2010 4:53PM (Moviefone Blog)
Or maybe Disney is trying to dry up the market to make way for a Tron blu-ray?

GamePro looks at Halo's influence on gaming

Apr 16th 2010 2:18PM (Joystiq)
From the GP article:

"Many will argue that the N64 classic Goldeneye was the first console FPS to nail down a solid control scheme that rivaled the PC’s keyboard and mouse, and they’d be right."

Actually, no, they'd be wrong. Turok 1 was released on the N64 more than six months before Goldeneye, and it was the one finally brought freelook to consoles. As I recall, Goldeneye's default control scheme was the same old tired console crap where you used the analog stick to walk forward/back and to look left/right, and looking up/down required shoulder buttons, or something. You had to go in to the config menu to choose a different scheme with analog freelook. Goldeneye... overrated p.o.s. =P

Ken Levine goes behind the scenes on System Shock 2

Feb 2nd 2010 2:52PM (Joystiq)
I would love to think this sudden resurgence of SS2 info has something to do with getting the world ready for more System Shock, or an SS2 XBLA re-release... anything like that. Mmmmm...

Report: Gamers stay gamers for life

Jul 27th 2009 6:02PM (Joystiq)
This certainly goes against my life experience. I'm 40, I've been gaming since 1972, and I remember a time when almost everyone I knew was a gamer. But of the people from back then that I'm still in touch with, almost none of them are still gaming. They stopped a very very long time ago and never came back. Hmm.

Konami registers 'Genso Suikoden' in US

Still trying to work out just how many glasses of laced Kool-Aid one must drink in order to see Suikoden as anything above mediocre.

Spielberg: Smartest and dumbest thing I did was sell my company to EA

Holy crap. All these years, I've always thought I was the only person who liked A.I.

Space Invaders father Nishikado calls today's games improved, recycled

May 8th 2009 3:04PM (Joystiq)
It always strikes me as naive whenever someone says that "Games today are less innovative than they used to be, there used to be far more originality." I've been gaming since the early 70s. From my point of view the video game industry has ALWAYS been 5% innovation and 95% copycat. It's not a recent development in any way whatsoever, and it floors me to hear the creator of Space Invaders saying this. Apparently he's forgotten how flooded the market was with Space Invaders clones for 10 years or more. Every vertical shooter ever made, and technically also oddball POV shooters like Tempest, Gyruss, Tac/Scan etc. are all Space Invaders clones. For every 20 Space Invdaders clones, we were lucky to get one Reactor, or Boxing Bugs.

Prince turned down Guitar Hero, prefers kids 'learn how to actually play'

Holy shit. I never thought I'd agree with Prince about anything.

History lesson: Why Biohazard is Resident Evil out West

Apr 10th 2009 6:00PM (Joystiq)
Just gotta point out that Kramer was off by a whole year. It was late 1995 when the marketing campaign was ramping up, and I still have some magazines from circa Oct-Dec 1995 that contained the first announcements that it was coming to both Japan and NA. And it was announced as "Biohazard" at the time, for both regions.

EA sees success in Dead Space and Mirror's Edge ... after a 'lifetime performance'

Mar 6th 2009 2:19PM (Joystiq)
I found Dead Space to be one of the most (if not *the* most) polished and valuable AAA title of 2008. Its only real competition was MGS4. One of the best survival horror games I've played since REmake and Silent Hill 2. Often got the urge to throttle anyone stupid enough to say "Durrr, it's not survival horror at all, really". Mirrors Edge was great too, but a little lite on depth. In any case, I was really doubtful that EA was serious about turing things around and trying to get away from the shitty shovelware in favor of true quality. These two games made a believer out of me. Keep it up, you big faceless corporate conglomerate scumbags!
