Luigi's Mansion 2 preview: Creepy, crawly

Jun 8th 2011 8:49AM (Joystiq)
Nintendo commited a terrible mistake by not integrating at least a tegra 2 chip instead of the underpowered PICA200.

Just to give you an idea. The Tegra 2 has 4 pixel AND 4 vertex cores while the PICA200 has 4 vertex cores which can be used also as 4 pixel cores.

Now if Nintendo would've coupled that with at least a Snapdragon CPU, Luigi would be gliding through the mansion.

PlayStation Vita launches globally by end of 2011, starting at $249

As much as I want Nintendo to succeed with the 3DS. This is why it was a very bad choice going for a CPU/GPU built by an "unknown" Japanese company. Nintendo should have gone with Tegra2 at the least.

We'll have to wait for the next iteration of NIntendo's portable gaming device. The only thing going for Nintendo is the momentum they got from the original DS.

Wii MotionPlus review: it works, but so far the games aren't worth the fuss

Jun 30th 2009 11:58AM (Engadget)
This wii motion plus impression is flawed in so many ways. Grand slam tennis might not be the full simulation experience you expected, but that wasn't the objective of the game. As for the Tiger Woods impression, it is worth the fuss. The game immerses you in the golfing experience much more than any other game available, and it is much tighter implementation of the wii motion plus. Disc golf is a bonus, so don't expect a lot of polish in real world physics/aerodynamics.

DIY VR Game Gun packs built-in motion tracking, optional mullet

Now, why not connect it to an HMD. That way you get a bigger picture, with no outside distractions. You would only need to find a way to restrain yourself so you don't bump into the wall.

Hands-on: Project Natal: Burnout

I can already imagine... 15 minutes after your first CoD WaW3 mission. You hear an ambulance out of your place; then you remember that you just shouted "Heeeeelp... Meeeeeedic I'm dying here!" when you got shot. The neighbors panicked.

You might not find this funny.. I laughed in my head. @_@

On a side note: How can you command Natal "map" or "menu" if the volume is all the way up?

Motion control wars: Xbox 360 and PS3 are playing catch-up with Wii next year, who will do it right?

Next thing you know, they're going to want to leave it always-on and you'll be indirectly responsible for global warming! lol

Miyamoto: Super Mario Bros. Wii could be better, but the Wii's too weak

Jun 4th 2009 6:37PM (Engadget)
Nice read.. what better way to learn about the limitations of Wii's architecture than reading a "hacker's" findings. Shame on Nintendo... The architecture is opposite to their innovation slogan.

That doesn't mean I'll enjoy less my current Wii games, or the upcoming games I'm buying. I just feel somewhat depressed at the general idea of the lack of evolution possible during the Wii cycle.

This just makes me wish that Nintendo took the time off R&D to really bring some new efficient and powerful architecture next generation.

..... sighs

Hands-on: Dead Space: Extraction

It was a response to your comment. It's just that you made it sound as if it was light years away. I know Pro Logic II doesn't compare to 5.1, but it shouldn't affect a scare from behind, since a good implementation of the codec can separate all 6 channels in the receiver.

Guys, I'm not here to judge the game or your criticism. But, have you guys heard of Dolby Pro Logic II implementation on Wii? It was available since the Gamecube. The game will most probably be able to send the DPLII signal and any receiver nowadays can extract 5 channel information from the analogue feed. Check your recievers for DPLII/DPLIIx it should be there.

Now, sound wise, the only thing to look out for is for the DPLII logo on the box.

Game wise, I'll have to wait and see if the rails-on experience is scary enough. (When I was young, I still got scared when I rode in a horror themed rail ride.)

Parting shots: Reeves expects PS3 to be dominant in 3-5 years

May 3rd 2009 9:07AM (Joystiq)
I think I didn't explain myself correctly. I didn't imply that the current 360 would be a problem to Sony's PS3. I meant that if Sony plans to accomplish a 10 year lifespan with no new model, then the XBOX "720" would in fact have better overall performance (40% at least), than the PS3. And Nintendo with their new Wii 2.0 HD, if they push for the same low power save the planet with consoles motto, it would still perform less than the current PS3.
