A look at how the PS3 got to be $600

May 28th 2006 12:00AM (Joystiq)
#95 Sony just loves tards like FatSonyCowboy, brainwashed into thinking not only is the PS3 the best but that there is no point in buying another console. I think the fact he keeps repeating himself if just a reflection of his own insecurity and paranoia about whether he is actually right or not. Actually I think he wants a 360 but cannot afford one so he just spurts crap out in an effort to make him feel better about himself and justification for his childish ideals.

"80. The PS3 is gonna retail in Australia for bit over the price of the PS2. Back in the dark ages of the early 2000's, the PS2 cost $749au and the PS3, with current exchange rate, will be $776au. Thats not such a big shock for us Australians."

The Australian price has been announced at $999, and that is a big shock to Australians, this is one demographic where it will not sell well.

3.2 million Xbox 360s shipped, $388 million in losses [update 1]

74. Fanboy?, I have a gamecube, xbox, ps2, 360, DS, PSP and a gaming PC, Gaming fanboy maybe. I was just pointing out to 69 that the PS3 has 512MB ram NOT 1GB, are you telling me otherwise?, afterall this was his focus on extra performance...THE MEMORY, maybe you need to get your facts right as well, or at least read the post before having a go at me.

No. 69 if your going to start a post about GETTING FACTS RIGHT, you should do so yourself, according to you the PS3 has 1GB of memory.

"we have 512 mb of memory that operates ( normally) at 700 mhz vs 256 that is 700mhz and another 256 operating at 3.2 Ghz
we have a a 360 gpu that shares system memory while the ps3's gpu has its own 512mb of memory"

WRONG, yes the PS3 has 256MB XDR Main RAM @3.2GHz
256MB GDDR3 VRAM @700MHz, but that is used for system memory AND graphics memory.

Holy crap d8thstar, that is one of the best posts I have ever read on this site, good to see someone has some brains and realises *we* the consumers will be the only REAL winners this gen. And I am with 100% on buying consoles to play the games I want and I will be getting all 3 systems as well. There is no need to be a megacorp fanboy and miss out on all the fun that is to be had on ALL systems.

I love how the fanboys are laughing and hoping the 360 fails and vanishes.

There is something called COMPETITION, this wonderful concept drives innovation, if the PS3 was the only console(wii doesn't count as it isn't trying to compete with PS3) do you really think that would be a good thing???, if you do you are obviously just as stupid as the flaming comments you post.

Xbox 360 price drop and other X-rumors

idiot..(would have put your full handle but this is what you clearly are if you think that)

And I quote from the GCN splinter cell review

"It's no secret that the Xbox is a very powerful system. Many of the latest and greatest games to hit the Microsoft console have been extremely pretty and often outshine the same efforts by third-party publishers developing for GameCube. So in return, it's honestly no surprise -- despite the hype -- that the GameCube version of Splinter Cell isn't nearly as polished or pretty as the Xbox version. There, we've said it. But, what does that leave us with?

Gamers might be surprised. In some cases, the porting process was extremely friendly to the GameCube, as there are some very pretty lighting and shadow effects still in place. The game runs fairly smoothly at a nice 30 frames per second, but can slow down and chop up frequently when the camera is moved swiftly in close quarters. There are times when the lighting effects are clearly "faked" by the development team through creative texture work and static lighting conditions that snap to their on and off states, but looking back on it, many of these same tricks and effects were also in place for the Xbox version. There's no denying that the GameCube port is generally lesser in graphical quality, but it still has its shining moments and more than stands alone as a very pretty action title. "

Now you can say what you want but as I am an owner of both systems ( and I can only guess you have a gcn but no xbox) I have an informed opinion about this. Also to note is EVERY head to head on IGN for PC/XBOX/PS2/GCN game it goes like this

PC
XBOX(sometimes ahead of PC)
GCN
PS2

Instead of telling me to shut up how about you get your facts right and realise that the Xbox is a more powerful machine than the GCN.

Find it funny that you are on your own with this, ANYONE CARE TO SIDE WITH THIS KID AND SAY THE GCN IS MORE POWERFUL THAN THE XBOX????????, I think not, next you will be saying the rev is more powerful than the 360. Get a clue and deal with it fool

"The gamecube matched the xbox in graphics as well as elimanting load times something the xbox had in abundance. As well as not having as many slowdowns. Often an xbox game ported to the gamecube the gamecube version wound up having better graphics."

Fanboy or not the only person your kidding there is yourself, perfect example splinter cell xbox vs splinter cell cube..........nuff said

No.4, that is because Joystiq has always been biaised towards Microsoft

And it is good to see that Ubisoft have cut ties with this dirty bit of driver/software
