gah...sorry for the double post.

DS Daily: Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest?

Sep 14th 2008 1:59PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'm surprised by the number of old-school RPG players here, given that most of the new boards/blogs have a younger crowd.

I've started a bit early myself on japanese RPGs, but I wasn't able to play the Famicom FFs and DQs since I'm in asia, and those games were typically only available in japanese. That said, the first JRPG I played as FF2 (US), and I've played all FFs after that except 11. From the DQ series, I was only able to play VIII.

It's not fair for me to decide what's the better series, but I will say this this: the SNES Final Fantasies are the among the best RPGs I've ever played from the pre 32-bit era....and DragonQuest 8 is the best RPG I played after the 16-bit era. In general, I liked the earlier FFs than the later ones.

FF Tactics is an oddity for me since it's probably my favorite post-16bit FF despite not being part of the main series.

I'd like to end though by mentioning Chrono Trigger still tops everything in the end.

Chrono Trigger DS: For real!

Jul 2nd 2008 4:06AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I remember when there were polls here to determine what the most awaited game for the DS was and CT consistently came up on top.

This is ablsolutely incredible. I hope they give it the FFIV treatment.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Rush and Interceptor made the list.

No need to imagine: baby Jack is here!

Off the Grid reviews Universal Fighting System

Thanks nemesis, you answered most of the questions I had in mind. I'd like to get into this...but I'm wary of investing on CCGs that may not last that long, lack of long-term competition.

This is probably an exception though since I'm quite fond of the art from what I see so far. My disappointment is seeing how they make cards like say, Morrigan, an "exclusive" card that I could only have gotten last October. This just deters people like me who'd like to start getting in to the game.

FFIV fan translation patch for spoony bards

Jan 3rd 2008 11:02PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Last time I was in the forums, I don't think the patch was focusing on the story translation (yet)...but rather names, menus, spells, etc.

Personally, the most exciting thing going on in gbatemp right now is the Jump Ulimate Stars translation. The community is also nice there...there's a good feeling of working together on things.
