Is new Halo 3 DLC worth the coin?
Dec 12th 2007 1:36PM (Joystiq)As for value, I guess I am getting what I paid for in that I can play them now. But the maps themselves aren't worth $10. Sadly, they seem like part of a bad trend where I am going to spend $60 on a game and then be nickled-and-dimed, or ten-dollar-ed, for extras. But when is something an extra and when is something a feature that should have been in the game in the first place? Seems like it would be easy to release an incomplete game and induce people to buy the parts you left out. Should be interesting to see what happens when the 360 starts selling games that are just husks to hawk DLC. I'd say if, but we are talking about Microsoft here.
Exclusive: Gertsmann speaks about K&L review, future
Dec 3rd 2007 11:22AM (Joystiq)That's the wonderful thing about journalism. It's an easy word to use, but a lot harder to practice, particularly when you are trying to make a buck off of ad revenue. I think the trick is for readers to understand that you are not the main source of revenue for a publication. Therefore, your interests are secondary. Sure, you can argue that no one will read the article if no one has faith in your opinion. But, given the fact that no 10 gamers can seem to agree on what constitutes a good game and what sucks and doesn't suck, I don't really see how any publication would have a problem finding a market to sell to their adverstisers.
Sadly, this state of affairs not only applies to game reviews, but to, in my opinion, more important issues, including coverage of our government and corporations. As readers, we really have to be wary of the motivations of anyone claiming to be journalist. Even the "old media" like newsapers makes most of its money off of advertising. And you have to read everything with a critical eye.

Nov 13th 2007 9:49AM (Joystiq)PS3 firmware 2.00 tomorrow, full details today
Nov 7th 2007 11:54AM (Joystiq)Now, I don't really care if this update was over-hyped or not. From the very beginning, the lack of XMB on the PS3 was a major disapointment. Each day they don't add it is a major disapointment. I simply consider this a minimal part of any online experience. And I'd be willing to pay for the service if Sony would get its act together. But they continually disappoint.
And can we stop defending a multi-national corporation's incompetence as they were some kind of artistic underdog? Neither Microsoft nor Sony deserve this amount of support when both are just after short term profits. Give your loyalty to something that deserves it.

Oct 29th 2007 9:44AM (Joystiq Xbox)This is unrelated to RvB, but it seems if I pay $60 for a game, shouldn't I get the whole game? It's a matter of semantics to call something "extra content." If you put it in the game in the first place, it's not extra. It's just a more complete game.
As for the RvB, if they can get people to buy their series, all the power to them. I've seen a couple of episodes and I probably won't. But to each their own.
