Japanese survey links video games to learning English

Feb 2nd 2009 12:18PM (Joystiq)
Not surprising at the very least, not for me. I've learned all the English I know from watching movies, studying computer science and video games, and I've never, not once, attended an English school. Now I know my writing may not be very grammatically correct at times, and that my pronunciation sometimes sucks, but to be honest I'm living proof that you can Learn another language by playing video games and other hobbies you may have.

So as I said, I totally agree with the responses in that studio. Now If I only had the time to learn the correct grammar, that'd be great too. (I may start this winter to read books if I get time off from reading IT stuff)

Far Cry 2 bundled with Spore DRM

Oct 15th 2008 1:32PM (Joystiq)
Maybe You're Right, maybe they're in their right. But you know what? The people who shell the money out to buy a game, shouldn't have to be annoyed because the actions of others. Maybe they do have some rights and reasons to do this. What should people do? Not give them money, period.

Besides, they will never find a proper method of DRM as long as the games data resides in the user's computer, so they may as well give up until they find a way to host the game data, which will also be another form of screwing us alright.

People Defending Securom saying it isn't so bad are missing the point. Fact is, once you give them 50 bucks of your money to get a game that's supposedly yours when you pay for it (after all they are selling it, not renting it) you should be able to install it, uninstall it whenever you see fit. And install it in as many computers you see fit.

Not only that, but the only people suffering from those schemes are the good abiding citizens. Pirates will just crack it anyway. Just look at spore, it's the best proof there's that this DRM just exist to annoy decent people. Before it was even released it was being pirated thousands of times. That makes DRM both, useless and unnecessary.

Fuck that shit.
Step one: Go to amazon before it's even released, give it a one star rating so Ubisuck knows we mean business.

Step two, if you like it buy it, don't like DRM? Download a crack.

Done.

PC Zone: Deus Ex 3 confirmed as prequel, blessed by original creators

Oct 7th 2008 10:38AM (Joystiq)
I just finished playing Deus Ex yesterday for the 5th time, more or less, and I'm still surprised as how everytime it has been a different experience, almost as if it was other game. For example, just last week I found out, that if you enter the ladies bathroom at the beginning of the game, manderley scolds you because the girl there reported you. That Just made me realize how awesome that game is.

That said I hope Eidos doesn't screw up this one. There's already too much garbage FPS floating around as it is.

Itagaki: Easier to develop for PS3 than Famicom

Aug 28th 2008 12:02PM (Joystiq)
I don't see what's crazy about what he's saying.

Now developers (and this is true for most modern devices, not just the ps3) can make use of better middleware, have tons of libraries and algorithms they can use, more memory, more processing power and more everything. The only thing I can think of they have more difficult to come up with is imagination (Old school developers needed that)

I mean, if you take that into account, it makes perfect sense. I don't understand why are you people calling him crazy, and as someone else said, you'd think he knows what he's talking about since he's been developing games for more than a decade.

Interview: Dyack addresses Too Human complaints

Aug 27th 2008 11:49AM (Joystiq)
Wow. First time I see a developer whining so much about how people don't understand his game. Seriously Dyack, time to throw in the towel and admit your game kinda sucks.

Rumor: NVIDIA's defective GPU woes worsen

Anyone saying the inquirer is like the onion is obviously ignorant on IT stuff and/or doesn't read theinquirer.

Sure, they have a funny style of writing their stories, but that doesn't make them any less trustworthy.

They were the first to break the news about the Sony exploding batteries and several other stories irresponsible companies sensitive and fanboys like the people dissing TheInq would rather not let anyone know.
