DS Daily: What do you look for in a case?

Jan 16th 2007 10:40AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I like to use the tins for Eclipse Mints to hold my games. Each tin is just wide enough fit a DS game either lengthwise or widthwise, and I can fit up to 10 (albeit a bit tight) games in one tin. They don't bounce around alot and it's really easy to toss it in your pocket or whatever.

They even come in a variety of colors and flavors!

Star Trek: Legacy goes the wrong way

Jan 4th 2007 12:17PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I've been playing Legacy MP a few nights a week and it's one of the most fun games I've played so far.

I'm a member of the forum #2 posted about, and we've set up all sorts of games and duked it out throughout the eras. The game's far from perfect, and being a fan certainly helps, but it's alot of fun, and that's really what matters the most.

The single player campaign is ok. I've seen far better, for sure. Multiplayer is where it's at, no doubt.

New games this week

I'm crossing my fingers that Star Trek Legacy doesn't suck royally. Bethesda surprised me with Tactical Assault on the DS and managed to pull off a pretty decent game. Hopefully Legacy will go the extra mile.

Looking forward to Castlevania, too. I'm actually more eager to get all the goodies with the pre-order. *grin*

Marcus Fenix is Bender, Bender is Marcus Fenix

Dec 3rd 2006 4:30PM (Joystiq)
I marked out when I saw that John DiMaggio did the voice for Fenix. I'm a big fan of his work and I recognized his voice from the commentaries on Futurama, and his work as Evil Santa (on the second Xmas episode, John Goodman did the first one) in the show. He's using the same voice for both.

Alot of the actors on Futurama did multiple parts. Most notably was Billy West, who did Fry, Farnsworth, Zoidberg, Zapp Brannigan, and a slew of extras in every episode.

Games on more than one disc: do you care?

Nov 24th 2006 10:47AM (Joystiq Xbox)
It depends entirely on the type of game it is.

If we are talking about a linear game like an RPG or a multi-level FPS like Gears of War, it's no big deal for me to switch discs when I reach a certain point on the first disc. If the developers need more space, I'm not opposed to them including the multi-player on a second disc too, if necessary.

However, when you look at free-roaming games like GTA, it becomes a problem. Assuming the game loads the second disc when you approach a specific area on the map, well you might be switching discs every couple of minutes or so. That's a problem. If they set it up so the next batch of missions (but the same map) are on different discs, then it's not much of a hinderance.

I'd much rather developers push the boundaries, regardless of disc size. If you need 3 discs to tell your story, use them. Don't downsize the game or remove content or sacrifice anything to make it more convient. Just be aware of how the switching process takes place and try to streamline it as much as possible. Changing from disc 1 to 2 to 3 is no problem. Changing from 1 to 2 to 1 to 3 to 2 is.
