Double Fusion slows down WipEout HD with ads

Aug 3rd 2009 4:49PM (Joystiq)
Exactly. For a free game, ads are fine. For a game you pay for, it's unacceptable. I was very close to buying WipEout HD Fury too, but I refuse to buy it because I loathe in-game ads.

Engadget's recession antidote: win one of 100 Microsoft Windows 7 pre-order discount codes!

Gonna be buying both Windows 7 and Snow Leopard at launch.

Question, what is this about "activating" a comment. If we comment is there anything else we need to do?

Pulitzer Prize winner George Will thinks gamers shouldn't be allowed to vote

It must be lonely for him up on his pedestal.

@RudyHuxtable: LOL "Turkeyneck" -- you win!

Final Fantasy XIII's battle system explained

Mar 26th 2009 12:01PM (Joystiq)
@ronEbear: Yeah, just personal tastes. I like the tactical nature of menu-driven fights. If not paced well, they can can become boring, but I'm hoping FFXIII keeps it interesting.

Final Fantasy XIII's battle system explained

Uh huh... And picking an action in an action game by pressing a controller button is THAT different?

I hope the battles have lots of strategy involved. I can't wait!

SXSW 2009 : Where's Chrome for Mac?

Mar 17th 2009 7:38PM (Download Squad)
The reason Mac users (myself included) keep asking about the Mac client is because Google keeps on saying "it's coming" but we never hear any news about it. That is quite different than it being a Windows-only product from the get-go, don't you agree?

World of Warcraft and Second Life are next, says Worlds.com CEO

Mar 12th 2009 11:42AM (Massively)
I love how patent trolls do nothing about this until they see very rich companies and then decide to go sue. I guarantee if WoW wasn't successful we probably wouldn't have seen this lawsuit.

I see these kinds of lawsuits as preventing innovation. As I am pretty ignorant regarding the patent/legal system I will not say much, but I do hope Worlds.com loses the fight miserably.

17-inch MBP fan / overheating issues causing GeForce 9600M to bug out?

I meant late '08 MBP (unibody).

17-inch MBP fan / overheating issues causing GeForce 9600M to bug out?

Mar 8th 2009 7:49PM (Engadget)
I have an early '08 MBP and my fans don't kick in quick enough either when running on the 9600M. If I fire up a game without launching SMCFanControl to bump up the fan RPM first, I almost always get the black screen. No system updates or firmware updates have fixed this problem. There aren't any hardware defects as far as I can tell, everything runs and looks great once I put the fans into high-speed mode.

I would consider myself a fan of Apple (not a fanboy! there is a difference!), but the build quality of their laptops has declined considerably since the days of the Powerbook G4. For the amount of money I paid for this I would expect everything to be absolutely perfect -- its not. I will definitely wait until the kinks are worked out of future products before I buy. That said I still think it's an amazing piece of hardware. Hopefully Apple can improve in the future.

Dave Perry challenges Sony to confirm UMD in PSP 2

Mar 3rd 2009 10:26AM (Joystiq)
I think Sony should be called out for abandoning the UMD. They shoved the format down our throats - and now what? The PSP2 will have a hell of a time being Backwards-compatible if it lacks the hardware to read UMDs. What is with Sony's aversion to BC?

What if all the PSP games we bought are useless because Sony abandons the hardware soon? Its enough to make me put off PSP games until I know what's coming. Then again maybe Sony already has a solution in mind...
