Silent Hill V taking cues from Gan's movie

Aug 28th 2007 10:14PM (Joystiq)
The fact that someone with a Naruto avatar is complaining about uninspired plotlines: priceless.

As for the rest, I'm not really worried about it. Every game's had two distinct worlds (there was even one point in the first one, when you went to that carnival place, when it did a shift right while you were there), and while there were things that the movie got VERY wrong there are still several things it got right. Unless the developers from The Collective have never played any of the past Silent Hill titles, it should be easy to tell which elements to take from the movie, and stuff like motion capture is a very good place to start.

Namco not happy about PS3 sales, states new plan

May 12th 2007 10:07PM (Joystiq Playstation)
@kingofwale: How could they NOT expect Dynasty Warriors: Gundam to sell 500,000? I'm surprised that's ALL they expected given that it's labeled as part of a very popular series of games and leaching off of one of the biggest anime licenses of all time. Normally, that would be enough to make half a million, easy.

Joystiq hands-on: Skate

May 11th 2007 6:10PM (Joystiq)
Ugh. The comments here disgust me. I've seen nothing but praise from everyone who's had hands-on time with the game, and yet people are still willing to claim that all of that is completely worthless nonsense and that the game is almost definitely going to suck nonetheless.

It's like people don't even remember why everyone hates EA (hint: it's got almost nothing to do with the games, and EVERYTHING to do with the business behind them).

Sakaguchi interview reveals new details on Lost Odyssey

May 8th 2007 1:12AM (Joystiq)
@5: Square-Enix tries new things. Look at the first trailer they released for FFXIII and the tiny bits of gameplay in it, or any statements they've made on it. Even easier, look at FFXII, which actually PLAYS DIFFERENTLY FROM THE REST OF THE SERIES. The FF series HAD hardly changed before that, back when someone was still in charge of it... oh, I can't seem to remember his name... oh wait, that's right, it was Hironobu Sakaguchi, the guy who's STILL making the same shit even after he's left them.

@13: I'm not judging the game. I'm judging Sakaguchi. He sucks, as do his games.

And as for being a PS3 fanboy, lolno. Right now, the only console I own is a Wii. I'll get a 360 when some more of my Xbox games run on it, and I favor it right now because it has MUCH better games than the other two. I probably won't even touch the PS3 until the price has dropped to below what the Wii's at now. See, I'm not a fanboy, thus the fact that I'm willing to point out the fact that Sakaguchi's a washed-up developer who I can't recall EVER coming up with something original (Final Fantasy was a Dragon Quest clone) despite the fact that he's supporting the company I prefer right now this gen.

Sakaguchi interview reveals new details on Lost Odyssey

I used to have respect for Sakaguchi, but by now I'm amazed that anyone's still interested in his games. He's been releasing the same thing over and over again for two decades, and yet people still cream themselves the moment they hear that he's working on a new game that'll almost definitely be the exact same thing as virtually every other game he's made. I did want to cut him some slack for a long time, and assume that it was his corporate overlords at Square-Enix that were forcing him to pump out the same crap year after year, but the fact is that when he moved on they started trying new things and he didn't.

The man has no business in the video game industry. He hasn't produced anything substantially new for ages, and all of his games rely on pointless menu-based battles that serve no purpose but to artificially expand game length for the whole of their actual gameplay.

Wii's Virtual Console sales declining

Apr 28th 2007 8:46PM (Joystiq)
Oh, another thing holding the VC back (beyond the whole "people pirate the games" bit): the point-buying system. Spending $10 to pick up a $5 game is just plain retarded, and it's bothered me on more than one occasion. Even now, I have 100 points just sitting in my VC account, completely unused and completely unusable.

Wii's Virtual Console sales declining

@17: Has nothing to do with pricing OR a lack of good games (see my last comment, they've been doing a good job getting some worthwhile games out the door for quite some time). The problem is that people see pirating the games available on it as a legitimate way to get them (which is isn't, of course, being illegal and all). If it weren't for things like emulation, I can all but guarantee that barely even a fraction of the people complaining about the price would bring it up.

Wii's Virtual Console sales declining

@zombiejesus: This week, they put out one of the Lode Runner games, one of the Wonder Boy games, and Gradius III. Week before that, they put out Bonk's Revenge and Punch-Out!!!. Before that, they put Galaga. Before that, Star Fox 64. Before that, Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV. Before that, Beyond Oasis, Splatterhouse, and Excitebike. Before that, Tecmo Bowl. Before that, Super Ghouls & Ghosts. Before that, Ocarina. Before that, Donkey Kong Country. I can't be bothered to keep looking after that, because unless I've missed something that's nine weeks with every one of them having at least one game worth owning.

Final Fantasy XIII series to last ten years

Apr 23rd 2007 8:45PM (Joystiq)
It's worth noting that while the Fabula Nova Crystallis games are all going to be based in the same universe, they aren't going to be based on the same characters or worlds (in fact, so far none of the three announced games for the series are). We won't have to worry about "playing nicely" with XIII's characters, because XIII's characters aren't in Versus XIII, Agito XIII, or (more likely than not) the vast majority of the games in the series.

Rod Humble spills his thoughts on 'The Marriage'

Apr 4th 2007 4:31PM (Joystiq)
This guy is, quite possibly, the biggest douche I've ever seen in the gaming industry. The Marriage isn't art, The Marriage doesn't even approach art, and claiming that it is because the rules aren't explained anywhere is retarded. Art isn't art because it isn't explained to you, it's art because it's a work of creative expression, or because it means something. All he's produced is a work of shitty visuals and lackluster... well, everything, and a product that's absolutely meaningless.

The Marriage sucks, and this guy sucks even harder for using his BS to make it that much harder for ANYONE to take the "games as art" argument seriously.
