The NIH (not invented here) syndrome is an expensive one. Sony has only recently began to allow usage of SD cards in their cameras and small electronics over just memory stick for the same reason. You license and buy COTS components to avoid high R&D costs.

Maybe I misunderstand what you were saying, but I think it's bad no matter which gaming company they go after. I don't think it's right to say its okay to go after one company but not the rest, this industry is held together pretty tightly and we should support each other as such.
