The DS is your co-pilot

I think this isn't the whole city map, but only the metro plan. Still, great app.

How will British standby laws affect consoles? [update 1]

@Rare Hare : The electronic device I use my remote to control is in standby mode, and as such, consumes energy... thus contributes to the global warning.

How will British standby laws affect consoles? [update 1]

Jul 20th 2006 4:37PM (Joystiq)
I cannot believe what I am reading here. Have we become so spoiled ? This is not a matter of "If I pay, I have all the rights I choose to have."
If I pay my coke I can be a junkie.
If I pay a car I can run over whoever I choose.
If I pay a guy to kill the president, I have the right to.

Guys, this is not only a matter of money. This is a matter of environment.
Pollution, be it Co2 or nuclear waste, is destroying our planet. Waste of energy is slowly increasing the temperature.

Can you honestly say "I pay, so I can destroy my planet" ?

I am, like you, spoiled. I use my remote all the time. I leave my electronic devices in standby mode all the time. I have been educated on the subject of environment. I've seen counless catastrophist programs, read countless warning articles... but I have not changed my uses.

When you cannot be educated, you need to be shown the right path. Maybe that's all they are trying to do ?

Pre-order Halo 3 for $69.99 Canadian

Jul 7th 2006 3:27AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Are you kidding me ?
Preordering a piece of software more thant a year in advance ?

I don't think so.

Apart from the fact that it is absolutely unnecessary as games don't need to be preordered, nobody knows right now if Halo3 will be a good game.

think about Devil May Cry, Tomb Raider, Quake... All good series, with at least one crappy episode.

What if Halo3 was the crappy one ? I am not buying it until I see good reviews.

The Wiimote as a Power Glove

Jackal > Actually, it goes into the second wiimote, the white one in the right glove.

DS browser lacks some essentials [Update]

Jun 30th 2006 4:35AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'm not buying it.
I'm not sure I would have even if those functionalities had been there, but I will definitely not without them.

I thought I would maybe create a homepage with my favorite music and videos embedded, and I suddenly realize that I won't be able to... So what's the use ?

The Xbox 360 and glitching, six months later

May 29th 2006 4:38PM (Joystiq Xbox)
My Xbox belongs to the first generation. I had it on day one in Europe.

I've had no problem until now, and hope it will go on like this. I tend to agree with JD. One console going wrong can happen. Two is an obvious lack of luck.

But three or four ? These people must be doing something wrong - or maybe they should get an exorcism right away.

On the three monthes warranty subject, I have not checked myself, but I think it must be different in France, where the duration of the minimum warranty is set by law.

Joystiq poll: Waiting for E3

Apr 21st 2006 10:27AM (Joystiq)
Well, Marc, I think that it just has to do with the amount of news they get.
Nintendo is being very clever, letting new screenshot, and new information escape once in a while. Whereas Sony is still trying to keep everythin secret.
Joystiq cannot talk about things that don't get told.

About the poll, I am of course more excited about Nintendo. I already have a 360, and expect the PS3 to be more of the same. Different brand, different hardware, but same kind of games.

These two entertainment systems bring better graphics, better online services, but nothing really new.

The Nintendo Revolution has the potential to bring something fresh an new. We all hope fr the better, and fear the worst... Thus the excitement : we want to see if the Revolution is worthy of our attention, or if it's a waste of time.
