Report: US July sales up 22%, DS and EA top sellers

Aug 11th 2006 5:26PM (Joystiq)
Here is another way to view the report,

Americans spent so far this year on hardware alone.

1. Xbox360 $82,397,940.00
2. DS Lite $49,006,230.00
3. PSP $32,198,390.00
4. PS2 $31,327,590.00
5. GBA $13,038,370.00
6. GCN $4,399,560.00
7. Xbox $1,559,880.00

I based these on current pricing so it’s not exact but it does provide a ball park view. Also this is just hardware alone and not accessories.

Sweet 5.1 Live headset

Jul 27th 2006 1:03PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I purchased these about a month ago because I live in an apartment, they are awesome and the microphone quality sounds great, it just clips on to the left side and has a cord that plugs into the controller. One of the downsides is that you don’t have a mute button on the mic and you a tethered by a cord, but at 12’ long it’s not a major issue. Tritton's website did also provide instructions on how to optimize your game volume so you can hear people talking because you will need to output the voice through the speakers not the headset. One of the favorite things I like about this headset is the individual channel control, you have complete volume control over your front/center/rear and vibration (AKA: Bass) channels on a wired remote, it even has a main volume on the decoder box as well for all channels. I even noticed that it has great sound dampening material which helps make the experience even better. If you are looking for a headset that will not piss your parents, neighbors and people sleeping off but still want the Dolby Digital experience this is the headset for you.

AMD to buy ATI for $5.4 billion

Jul 24th 2006 4:50PM (Joystiq)
This sucks I was a proud of ATI being Canadian, being Canadian myself and now an American based company just write a cheque and buys them out. They will probably consolidate their branch and back out of Canada entirely. Typical American Business Practices, kind of sounds like how the NHL lockout occurred. Just pay your players exorbitant amounts of money even though we probably will not be able to pay him that in a few years. Though the cool this is with the exchange rates being so good in Canada right now at least they are almost getting a dollar for a Loonie. And we would probably see more heavy competition for NVIDIA.

LOTR:BFME2 ringing up demo

Jul 12th 2006 1:07PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I have been enjoying this game for several days now, it’s been fun and surprisingly once you get the controls down its easy to play considering the lack of mouse/keyboard support. The only issue is that on a non HD TV set you might have trouble seeing things because of the fine detail when you are zoomed out so I would recommend a HD set. Yes the slowdowns exist but considering it was originally ported from the PC version I can’t complain. Hopefully this will put an end to the misconception that you need a keyboard and mouse to play these kinds of game on a console.

Sony exec says PS3 games won't work on 360

Jul 7th 2006 10:42AM (Joystiq Xbox)
"Our first party projects are all unique to PS3. Some of our games, by virtue of their design and hardware demands, simply couldn't work on Xbox 360 because they would run so fast that the end user couldn't keep up."

CoD3 gameplay footage rolls

Jul 6th 2006 10:11AM (Joystiq Xbox)
I see a few spots that look good like some of the smoke effects but its difficult to tell how much of an upgrade visually its from COD2 because of the low resolution of the video and if the graphics are nearing completion but overall it looks impressive. It would be really nice if we had better multiplayer with larger maps and 16+ people.

Chromehounds demo ignores US and Canada

Jun 29th 2006 11:47AM (Joystiq Xbox)
For the US it’s probably because it might be considered a terrorist attack and it need to go through a rigors security check to ensure it’s safe for the people.

As for Canada they probably forgot to flip the switch.

PS3's rumored backcompat solution: a PS2 inside

Jun 5th 2006 5:25PM (Joystiq)
What is the point of BC if you can't even transfer your old save games. If they were really smart they would add a PS memory card slot to the PS3.
