Team Fortress 2 players segregate F2P users with insta-ban

Jul 2nd 2011 1:04PM (Joystiq)
@Mcmax3000 : Terrible server mods are _already_ the problem with most of Valve's games. Add to that deluded server admins who think they know better than the people who designed the game in the first place, intent on changing rules they don't like and rendering the game frustrating and broken in the process.
(Insta-spawn, Quake sounds, disabled weapons, points mods, banned regions in maps, gorram multitudes of voting panels…).

Yes, I know you can finally filter for stock servers, but the memories still haunt me. Besides, I'm particularly bothered by the thought of new people just discovering these games, and _some_ server mods are actually pretty tasteful and fun.

Battlefield Play4Free engages hostiles in Spring 2011

So, what happened to 64-player Battlefield? I've been obsessed with Project Reality lately (the fairly well produced BF2 mod) and I can't imagine going back to 16 per team.

And if those are BF2 maps, they're going to be either the medium versions (smaller, with fewer vehicles, etc), stretched hopelessly thin, or somehow butchered.

Telltale showcases the new voice of Back to the Future's Marty McFly

@viper20999 : “Uh, well, I haven't finished those up yet, but you know I... I figured since they weren't due till...”

Think, McFly. Think!

Nintendo opens the floodgates on Fluidity media

Sep 4th 2010 1:13PM (Joystiq)
This looks awesome, but again it's the sort of game that would kick ass if it could be played in a more casual context. On a phone, for example.

I wish Nintendo would bury some of their damn pride and start kicking ass on the App Store, Android Market, etc.

@inquisitor : AHA! That finally explains the roads in Civ 4.

Exclusive: Upcoming Apple TV loses 1080p playback, gains apps... and will be renamed iTV

This article sounds mighty sure of itself, given that it's all rumours. Almost sounds like you're quoting a press release.

Anyway, to explain the confusion about the speculation about the possible resolution it may output, graphics chipsets have a particular maximum resolution they will handle. On embedded devices, this is actually quite a tight limit. (For example, the nice OMAP2420 with PowerVR graphics that was used for Nokia's N810 couldn't output at 800x480, so they added a separate LCD controller).

Actually decoding video is a rather different concern.

ASUS' Windows Phone 7 debuts in the wild?

Now that these stories are common, could we please start calling these Windows 7 Phones? The jumbled words are making me hate people more than usual.

webOS 2.0 coming 'later this year,' says HP's Rubinstein

Jul 22nd 2010 7:15PM (Engadget)
@tonyn84 : But superfluous software is HP's thing!

“Palm WebOS, now with HP Touchsmart, HP Photosmart Essential and Symantec AntiVirus for Linux*!”

* 30 day trial

And without all that excellent software, HP would have to lay off some good American workers! You aren't a commie, are you?

Google halting Nexus One sales through official store after current inventory depleted

Jul 16th 2010 5:51PM (Engadget)
@Dummy00001 :
Yeah, exactly. As a power-user with some interest in developing software for Android, I NEED a well supported device that bends to my will without needing to jump through hoops. Google's device is the only one to offer that. I'm not in the market for a phone quite yet, so when I am, if I can't find an Android device with that same arrangement, I won't be buying an Android device. Ergo, I will not be developing software for the Android ecosystem. Grudgingly.

(Oh, it doesn't help that the other manufacturers are making fucking behemoths instead of cell phones, but that's a different issue)
