Rumor: Diablo 3 will arrive before StarCraft 2
Sep 15th 2008 1:38PM (Joystiq)I'm rather skeptical about this rumor though. They have released a whole lot more information about SC2 than D3. Also SC2 was in development since right after they finished WC3, while (as far as I know) we havn't a clue when they actually started on D3.

Sep 12th 2008 8:49AM (Joystiq)Death threats? Really? And someone actually took the time out of his/her life (an apparently sad, little one at that) to write a 2,000 word story? All because someone else was chosen as a voice for a digital character...
Ok people, it's shit like this that ends up justifying the negative stereotypes about gamers. I love games just as much as the next gamer but sending hate mail, especially over a voice actor, is pathetic and a sign of a very unhealth obessesion.

Sep 11th 2008 3:28PM (Joystiq)@Boffo: Yeah, I had a similar experience with my friends. Conversation when something like this:
"Dude, there's this 4-player co-op zombie apocalypse shooter coming out..."
"I'm there. When does it come out?"

Sep 11th 2008 11:36AM (Joystiq)GameStop waves off alternative forms of retail until 2020
Sep 10th 2008 8:29AM (Joystiq)For PC gaming, I'd say DD is or is on it's way to becoming the standard. Most retailers won't accept PC games for trade-ins anyway and I havn't seen Gamestop stock a decent amount of PC games in years (with the exception of WoW). Gamestop doesn't really give a damn about PC games anyway.
As for consoles, I think DD is eventually going to become the standard. Oh it'll take awhile, at least 10 years if not longer, but it'll happen. As the Gamestop exec stated the companies get a bigger cut from DD and, from a business perspective, that's very tempting. Piracy also won't be as nearly of a problem on consoles as this exec would like you to think 'cause consoles aren't nearly as easy as PC's mess around with in that regard. I figure that the consoles will be following the PC's example and test the waters with DD by offering a retail version of games and the option to do DD. If the DD does well enough they'll start to slowly switch to DD-only until disc games are a thing of the past.
And before I forget, fuck this guy for trying to pass off Napster as direct download. It was a P2P network. Napster (originally, anyway) never just put up content for download someone else had to have the data to share. DD and P2P are two seperate things.
New games this week: Spore edition
Sep 8th 2008 10:17AM (Joystiq)Out of the first four phases, I liked the Creature phase the best. Controlling the creature felt like it had more depth than the other phases for some reason and there's most creation choices in that phase than any of the others.
It should be noted that the game's bigget strength is the creature creation. In terms of gameplay, well, it's nothing all that special. Phase 1 is kinda-sorta like Flow, Phase 2 is MMO-lite, Phases 3 and 4 are RTS-lite, just on different scales. I guess the major appeal is the fact that the critters on the screen are something you actually created and there is something about destroying a rival tribal with beings that you designed rather than Generic Ork #45 (not to be confused with #46).
Those looking for a really in-depth civilization sim are probably going to be disappointed. Those looking for something quick and fun or a game with heavy emphasis on the user's creative output will have a blast.
