Amazon Kindle DX Graphite review

Aug 9th 2010 5:56PM (Engadget)
Why oh WHY is this nearly twice as expensive as the regular Kindle? When I bought my K2 I would have jumped on a DX in a second if the price had been reasonable. No way is that larger screen expensive enough to justify it...

Also, why in the hell does every review of every e-reader out there complain about the page refresh rate? Are they actually reading books, or just sitting there with a stopwatch? Seems to me like the pages change about as fast as I could turn a page on an actual book, and even if it is slower, I've never found myself reading and thinking that the page turns are so slow that they detract from the experience. And yet every single review HAS to mention the slow refresh rate of e-ink.

All I'm saying is that refresh rate should be judged for it's impact on the experience and nothing else. In this sense, it performs admirably, and I'd really like to stop hearing reviewers whine about it.

New Kindles now available for pre-order

Jul 29th 2010 8:20AM (Engadget)
@Billy
Except that people were clearly happy to do it, considering how successful the damn things were. I paid $259 for my K2i and was happy to do it.

This is the perfect time to release one at such a low price. Many people own Kindles, but the important part is that most people know somebody who does own one. Many people I know have expressed interest in getting one, and now that it's under $150, I expect sales are going to go nuts. Hell, I'm thinking about getting a second one. It's like in the early days when the iPod was super expensive. Everybody knew somebody who had one, but it wasn't until the $250 mini came out that it really reached the mass market.

Keep on trucking Amazon. Readers who have fallen in love with the Kindle are rooting for you.

Apple keeps antennagate alive with Droid X's 'kill switch' (video)

This is so childish... When's Apple going to stop acting like a ten year old?

Graphite Kindle DX coming July 7th for $379, now available for pre-order

Jul 1st 2010 9:14AM (Engadget)
Damnit.

I bought by K2i back in February for $259. I love it but if the DX had only been a hundred dollars more at the time I'd have bought it in a second...

Apple responds to iPhone 4 reception issues: you're holding the phone the wrong way

Jun 26th 2010 10:55AM (Engadget)
Also, I was surprised that this issue didn't crop up in Apple's testing, until I remembered that the one that was found in a bar was in a case that disguised it as a 3GS, so their testers might never have caught it.

Apple responds to iPhone 4 reception issues: you're holding the phone the wrong way

Jun 26th 2010 10:50AM (Engadget)
Apple should have put the breaks in the antenna at the top and bottom of the phone, where nobody holds it. Since everyone holds their phone a different way, there really isn't a perfect place to put them along the sides.

Nintendo 3DS will launch 'in all major markets' by March 2011, design still being tweaked

Jun 21st 2010 7:20PM (Engadget)
Damn right they need to change the design. It's much too good looking for a first-release Nintendo handheld. They'll have to ugly it up so they can sell us a sexy one in 2013.

Microsoft: no more Windows XP on new netbooks after October 22, really

Jun 12th 2010 9:28AM (Engadget)
For some reason they're still selling the HP Mini 311 with XP here in Canada... I can't find the Win7 version anywhere.

Motorola wants a 2GHz Android by year's end, so do we

Jun 10th 2010 7:27PM (Engadget)
How long do you think the battery will last with a chip at 2Ghz? I'm inclined to think we're a couple years away from having that kind of power with a reasonable runtime...

Android 2.2 coming to the full myTouch 3G range

Jun 10th 2010 8:14AM (Engadget Mobile)
Thank GOD. Now after Rogers in Canada gives the Magic a 2.1 update, it won't be able to say that 2.2 can't run on it, as they did with the Dream.
