Register your PSP Go quickly, get Gran Turismo PSP free

Wait - Sony STILL hasn't released GT for the PSP? Holy crap. I could swear that was a teaser title at PSP launch, over 4 years ago. Glaciers move faster than that GT development team.

Madden NFL 10 to feature online co-op

May 29th 2009 9:21PM (Joystiq)
You should check out the latest versions of FIFA and NHL if you're looking for some co-op fun. Both soccer and hockey really lend themselves to this and both games have dedicated singe-player modes (as in, you control a single player with a chase camera). NHL 09 = best sports game ever, IMO.

NY Times gives Game of the Year honors to GTA IV

Dec 23rd 2008 4:00PM (Joystiq)
Amen aaargh. I don't get all the hand-wringing over these GTAIV GOTY selections. It has groundbreaking production values we've never seen in games before. It also probably had the highest pop culture awareness factor of any game ever made. And on top of that, it is an awesome game that is a total blast to play.

To all of the haters, what are you playing? No game kept me glued to my TV this year like GTA IV did. It shouldn't be penalized for coming out earlier in the year. Don't like GTA games? No wonder you don't like it.

EA's 3 on 3 NHL Arcade skates on to XBLA, PSN in February

Dec 5th 2008 1:26PM (Joystiq)
Agree completely. NHL 09 is the best hockey game EA has ever made and by far the best sports game of the year, in my opinion. Say what you will about the rest of EA and EA Sports, but their NHL team has been doing a hell of a job for the past 3 years.

If you enjoy watching hockey or if you enjoyed the glory days of the NHL series in the 16 bit era, give it a try.

First screens of GTA IV: The Lost and Damned DLC

Nov 22nd 2008 3:26PM (Joystiq)
As someone who hasn't traded in his copy of GTA IV, loved GTA 3, VC, SA, and GTA IV, I'm psyched. I've been waiting for an excuse to put GTA IV back in the 360.

As for those saying GTA IV was too repetitive - ever play the other GTA games? It was perhaps less goofy but had all of the standard side missions and things to explore. I don't see any significant difference between it and the others, though I would agree that SA, overall, had the most cool gameplay mechanics (turf wars, businesses, dual-wield weapons, etc....and the best soundtrack).

Caps Owner Ted Leonsis Takes on ESPN's Bill Simmons

Nov 14th 2008 5:47PM (Fanhouse NHL Blog)
Interesting take indeed. I too thought the swipe at the Caps' division championship banner was dumb, though I cannot defend any banner that uses the phrase "Attendance Champions."

Having lived in DC and Atlanta, there is no comparison that Atlanta wins the contest with DC going away. There are certainly passionate fans in Atlanta, but that city for the most part cares more about college sports.

It's All YOUR Fault, Tom Poti

Apr 23rd 2008 7:59PM (Fanhouse NHL Blog)
Jim,
I don't have the energy to look up the rule, but I can promise you that you are completely wrong. The rule only requires the player to cause the contact with the goalie, it doesn't have to be him. I know this because the Caps had a goal disallowed on those grounds in their 2nd-last game of the season against Tampa about a month ago, and the NHL blessed the ruling. I should note that in that game, there was no penalty for interference; the refs simply disallowed the goal.

Plus, it should have been a penalty for regular interference anyway - defenseman didn't have the puck when he got hit into Huet.

Whoever wrote this article is a complete moron. Poti tripped him. But the refs gave the Flyers a goal and didn't call a penalty for the final 37 minutes of regulation - and there were plenty.

Counting Rupees: The year of the PS3

Mar 20th 2008 11:06PM (Joystiq)
OTAM,
This argument would be a lot more convincing if all of the PS2 GTA games weren't also released for the Xbox (aside from PSP ports). The bottom line is that nobody is going to buy a PS3 if they have a 360 and play GTA (or vice versa), because the game is out for both platforms. Only exclusive features (like Blu-Ray vs superior online) and exclusive games are going to tip the balance. Frankly I think both consoles have plenty in their favor, and I don't think we're going to see a dominant "next-gen" console this cycle. Both MS and Sony are going to make a tidy profit, and both have well-established brands at this point (in the US, anyway).

Counting Rupees: The year of the PS3

Mar 20th 2008 10:35PM (Joystiq)
Huh? People are going to choose to play them on whatever system they own...few own both the 360 and PS3, people on this blog notwithstanding. GTAIV is going to give a major cash cow to both consoles. I don't think GTAIV is going to move PS3s any more than it will move 360s. The PS3's biggest edge (and it's pretty enormous) is the fact that it's the best Blu-Ray player on the market. The 360 has a great back-catalog comparatively speaking, but going forward Blu-Ray is going to drive PS3 sales big time. I have both and much prefer the 360, but if I was going to buy only one right now, it'd be hard to pass up the Blu-Ray capability.

New Rock Band Store reminds us full albums are still 'coming soon'

Mar 20th 2008 1:52PM (Joystiq)
OK Computer would be so rad. There are a few songs with not a lot going on with the guitar, but for Airbag, Paranoid Android, Subterranean Homesick Alien, Lucky, etc., I'd take it over the Bends. That said, I'd be ecstatic for either.
