Jack Thompson, GamePolitics discuss God's wrath on Take-Two

Dec 31st 2008 12:08AM (Joystiq)
I don't think you need to point out that Thompson doesn't speak for all Christians. He's barely human, much less Christian, and I think everyone knows that by now.

Resident Evil creator Mikami won't play RE5

Yeah, I guess I'm just a fan of the classics in the horror genre. I want dark, eerie, and claustrophobic environments (though I also enjoyed 28 Days Later a great deal).

Resident Evil creator Mikami won't play RE5

Obviously I can't be certain of this without actually playing the game, but it appears that RE5 puts a lot less emphasis on suspense/tension, and more on a Gears-style of lots of enemies and lots of shooting. I don't see the classic traits of RE such as sparse ammo, creepy atmosphere (this setting doesn't do it for me so far), horror-style pacing, and so on. Again, I could be wrong, but that's how it seems so far. Perhaps those are some of the issues that Shinji Mikami is seeing as well.

I wanted to add two more to my previous post:

- Megaman, like everything else said, and...

- Simon Belmont from Castlevania.

Leon from RE4 would have been awesome. I also would love to see Chrono from Chrono Trigger!

Patterson waxes expansive about 'Woman's Murder Club' game

@kojo87

"you mean Anderson Cooper? you should at least know the name of they guy you're bashing."

I meant Cooper Lawrence. It was a simply typing error, no need for you to be an annoying ass about it.

Could he be any more condescending? I get so tired of seeing jerks like this (and Cooper Anderson) spouting off the same old tired cliche about people who play video games.

I take solace in the certainty that his pathetic excuse for a game will tank, though.

"It seems like companies have no reservations about milking nostalgia as much as possible for as long as possible."

Companies exist to make money. If people will buy it, they will make it. Your arbitrary ideas of whether or not nostalgia should be a factor in one's purchase does not, and should not, ever be a consideration for a business.

New City of Heroes & Villains update lets you invent 'stuff'

Jan 25th 2007 1:11AM (Joystiq)
I've played both, and though I learned MMOs are not for me CoH managed to keep me interested for almost 2 years. WoW lost me after 2 months. It's not for everyone, I suppose, but most people who play it don't complain about a grind. They usually complain about lack of different content, which this new addition will probably address (finally!).

@Psyclerk

Having 100k-200k subscribers doesn't seem like much these days with WoW's millions, but when CoH first launched almost 3 years ago that was considered a smash hit. Most MMOs get stuck in the 40k-80k range. When you ignore WoW it becomes clear that CoX is a hit for the MMO genre.

Ars Technica defends Left Behind, industry grows up a little

Jan 2nd 2007 11:39PM (Joystiq)
But we can still criticize the game for being poorly designed, right? I agree that, if we defend sex and violence found in games like the GTA series as free speech, we should defend religion and violence the same way in Left Behind. But let's not lose sight of the fact that the game just plain sucks, regardless of the subject matter.
