Wii sales have dwiindled by 50% in the past five months

Sep 12th 2009 8:01PM (Joystiq)
I bought a Wii two and a half months ago. At the same time I bought a Wii Fit package (rechargable battery, feet, and a silcone cover). IMO the one thing Nintendo could do to boost sales would be to make up an attractive package with the Wii Fit Plus software and the board along with the console.

Another thought would be to sell the darn thing with TWO remotes, including the Motion Sensor Plus for each one. Before mine even arrived I picked up a remote, with Wii Play (which sux, IMO) so I'd have two when it arrived.

Since I purchased mine TWO people bought a Wii and the Wii Fit package after coming over and using mine a few times. It's an easy console for people to get into, not just mainline gamers.

I'm finding that I'm still doing my main gaming on my PC although I did get Zelda: TP and Little King's Story for the Wii and are enjoying those plus the first episode of the Monkey Island series (some nostalgia there for me). Oh, and yeah I picked up good old Super Mario Bros. from the VC (more nostalgia) and went out and bought the VC controller. Nintendo got a good chunk of $$$ from me the past few months!

I'll also add that even with the price drop on the other two consoles I don't regret my Wii purchase. The main things I'm doing on my Wii I can't do on the other two.

Nintendo's Kaigler: Hardcore Wii game sales could go long tail ... maybe

Jul 29th 2009 9:13PM (Joystiq)
I still don't quite understand why third party Wii titles can be so darn difficult to find. All the comments here touch on different opinions but I wonder if Nintendo has something to do with it? Maybe a LOT to do with it? I'm a new Wii owner, just over 2 weeks, so I'm just now experiencing this situation on the Wii but have had a DS since '05 and learned quickly where to order some of the titles I wanted.

My first experience with the Wii was with Little King's Story. I read it was to be released on the 21st of July so since I now live within 5 miles of every chain store you can think of plus two local game stores, I did not pre-order it nor even think about getting it anywhere but locally. I went into Best Buy and after a lot of looking around the guy talks to someone and comes back to me with, "No we don't have it in stock and we won't be carrying it at all." I was surprised....this was a Best Buy that had a HUGE Wii inventory. Every add on and bauble you could think of plus a huge game inventory. Luckily the TWO Gamestops (yes TWO...in one big mall) next door had it although I had to wait until that evening to pick it up from one of them as they'd not unpacked it when I stopped in.

I think I may be luckier than some because between the plethora of chain stores here, 6 or 7 Gamestops in my area plus a couple EBs and several locally owned game stores, and the ability to mail order I should be able to find whatever title I want. I did talk to the guy at one of the locally owned stores about the Wii and he said he has a huge customer base for Wii games so tries to keep up a good stock. He was closed when I stopped by looking for Little King's Story or I could have gotten it there. Of course, I COULD have ordered it from NewEgg for several $$ less PLUS free shipping AND no sales tax but didn't even think to look. Now that I'm back in civilization I'm trying to support some of my brick and mortar stores although deals like that one make it difficult.

As for what to call a gamer..........what a load of noise that topic generated in this thread. Gaaaawd.

The Tower DS being built in miniature

I have the PC version of this and contrary to most everyone else, I liked it! Too bad I don't have a DSi. So far there's just no reason for me to buy one. With two people in the household and two DS devices, a Lite and an original or Phat, can't really justify a DSi. Not yet anyway. But this game was tons of fun. Makes me want to see if I can find my PC version and play it on one of my old computers.

Review: Little King's Story (Wii)

Jul 23rd 2009 10:57PM (Joystiq)
My TWO local GameStop stores, both in the same mall less than 5 minutes from me, did indeed have this later on Tuesday. Although I've not spent a ton of time with it I have spent enough to know that I'm really enjoying this game and will get many hours of fun out of it. It's quite hilarious, extremely charming and overall worth every penny.

I did kick myself when yesterday I saw it for $5.00 USD less via newegg.com WITH free shipping. Since they don't charge my state's sales tax either (YAY Newegg) it would have been a nice savings but on the other hand I had several days of playing time that I wouldn't have had if I ordered it from them yesterday. :)

The guy at the GameStop I went into, when asked, told me that he had a good, solid inventory of it as did every GameStop in my area (a total of 8 in a 25 mile radius, if that). I stopped by the GameStop next to my dentist today just to check out their used Wii inventory and they too had it. I asked the manager who was talking to me about the used stuff how Little King's Story had been selling and he said quite well and that he had a good inventory of it. As a new Wii owner I'm hoping this indicates that I'm in an area that will have a lot of titles available to me. Anyway..... if you think you might like this title, and you believe the reviews here and elsewhere (Play loved it), go pick it up if you can.

I too am looking forward to Little King's Story. So today I head out to get it. Since I now live less than 5 miles from every possible chain store in the US plus 2 good locally owned gaming / hobby stores, I figured, why bother to pre-order. BOTH GameStops didn't have it yet...one did have it listed on their computer as "In a box" as he put it but when he went back to look for it, nada. Told me to come back tomorrow or call first to be sure. The other GS told me to call tomorrow. Next door to Best Buy, after much looking the very helpful guy tells me, sorry we're not even going to be carrying it. Target next door, nope. WalMart across the street, no luck. EB, yes we have one right here along with the TWO GameStops, and no luck there either, but was told to call tomorrow. Locally owned...one was closed for some reason and the other said to check back near the end of the week, he should have it. I got the feeling he was going to go buy some once I talked to him about it and he looked it up online and stock them. Hey, at least he listened to me. So I'm home and no new game for me today.

Curious as to why Best Buy isn't even going to carry it given the good reviews I've read of it. Play gave it some lovin' as did the Nintendo mouthpiece NP, along with good reviews in various places online. I do know I can order it from Amazon and also even WalMart's website has it. I am NOT a WalMart fan and it took a lot for me to go in there today :) I'll make some calls tomorrow or Thursday and if I come up empty it's Amazon.com for me. Sometimes I think it was a LOT easier when I lived too far from stores and just ordered, or pre-ordered, online and forgot about it until it arrived.

Black Wii system comes in a black Wii box

Jul 14th 2009 5:44PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
As a new Wii owner , yes I finally got one just about a week ago, I have been noticing how it stands out among my otherwise all black cased items in our "entertainment" system area. Even my old Xbox, which I'm now thinking it is time to retire, is black and blends in nicely. Ah well.....I waited long enough to get a Wii and would not have waited any longer just to get it in a black case. What will annoy me is if they stupidly decide to sell off the white cased ones at a discount OR discontinue the white accessories.

Eurogamer pits Vanguard vs. EQII in first head-to-head MMO battle

Feb 19th 2009 4:48PM (Massively)
I played VG when it first came out. I was also playing EQ2 at the time. I just couldn't get into VG and get also couldn't get past the bugs so gave up. However, I've been finding EQ2 increasingly boring and find I hardly ever play anymore. To the point of thinking of closing my account! Atnor hit the nail on the head and really clarified for me why EQ2 just isn't doing it for me anymore. I think it's time I dust off VG and give it a go again. I appreciate this type of article and the comments! Especially those that aren't WoW vs. everything else.

And... for all those complaining, talk with your fingers....remove the feed if you're using it and just stop visiting the Joystiq.com site completely like I will be doing in a moment. All the pissing and moaning isn't, obviously, getting us anywhere.

This is almost useless. I asked for the DS *ONLY* RSS feed. Now this. BAH. Time to shut the feed off completely because I refuse to waste my time wading through stuff about the Wii and now non-Nintendo platforms. It was fun, DS Fanboy, while it lasted. Adios.
