Study: PlayStation owners show greatest brand loyalty

Nov 18th 2006 8:11AM (Joystiq)
Hi, PS2 owner here. I'm getting a Wii, and perhaps an Xbox 360, but not PS3 very likely. I think that most PS2 owners are still in the stage of misguided loyalty due to their PS2s still delivering a great gameplay experience. Yet, Nintendo had the same kind of loyalty, and that's why the subpar Nintendo 64 saw sales of 35 million units. Super Nintendo owners were very sure they were going to get an N64, but in the end, most defected to the PlayStation. The Wii has just started to pick out steam, and it's still about a year from the position PlayStation had when it made its breakthrough. However, as a PlayStation owner, I'm confident that Wii will be the "next PlayStation".

5 ways to avoid paying full price for games

I import. Wherever the deal's the best, that's where I buy, and often it's US stores. You Americans have really cheap prices for games.

We (don't) wait for the Wii (Kingston, NY edition)

Hooray! Finally some sense in this preorder madness.

The change of video games over the years

Oct 6th 2006 5:49PM (Joystiq)
Games may have changed, but I haven't. I'm still the same person, not, say, me next door neighbor. I think that modern games are boring. It's horribly boring to move around in 3D environments, and everything is so bloated and repetitive and needlessly complicated. I want streamlined interface and accessibility, real sense of being in control of the game characters and fun, new things. I want real games, not 3D animations that you slog through by pressing the analog controller and smashing a few buttons now and then.

1UP urges us to buy, not steal

A few weeks? A whole month!

If the game was in stores right now, I'd be buying it, no question about it.

Picture it: fanboys fight harder

Funny, but where is the Sony Defence Force? They're really putting up a fight these days when they're not sure about winning anymore.

Blow up U.S. tanker in Iranian game

Hooray! We've been getting American propaganda games so long I'm getting sick of it. Finally there's something to put in a little balance, just a little. The American propaganda games aren't limited to just America's Army - the propaganda mindset is present in just about every Western war game.

OPM promises to reveal unknown PS3 title

Completely ridiculous. "Wow, there is an unannounced game coming out on PS3!" This is not news.

Potential PS3 pitfalls parried

The linked article is quite horrible. How is it supposed to be based on facts and not biased? This is the exact same stuff that is littering thousands of forums all over the internet right now. "Don't forget, the cheapest Blu-Ray movie player right now costs over $1,000. The PS3 does that and so much more." - oh yeah, thanks for reminding me about that, Sony doesn't do it enough themselves! There's absolutely no more merit in that article than in the rambling of standard fanboys.

Circuit City will make your 360 backwards compatible ... for $30

Sep 2nd 2006 11:21AM (Joystiq)
At first I thought that Circuit City had invented a way to enhance the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility to 100 % by some relatively simple modification... that would have been awesome.
