Playdead boss says retail model is 'broken,' awaits digital revolution

Nov 1st 2011 4:58PM (Joystiq)
The other problem with downloadable media is that while I never truly own it, I also really can't get rid of it- I own about 20 or so XBL arcade games that I will never play again and I can't do anything with them other than delete them. I cannot gift them, I can't do a thing with them aside from delete them. This is preferable to physical media where I can lend, gift or sell the copies? At least Steam copies of games go on sale with significant enough discounts that it's worthwhile to spend upt to $10 on a normally $30+ game that I can't resell.

Playdead boss says retail model is 'broken,' awaits digital revolution

"Driving discs in a big van all over the world is really inefficient"

That's because they don't do _that_. They _ship_ billions of discs all over the place (in you know, big ass ships, not in little vans), then once it hits certain destinations the trucks and vans take over. They've already wrung out a lot of the inefficiencies in this market- in the price tag of a movie, video game, or CD the costs of shipping the product is not a significant percentage which is why "going to the internet" doesn't save as much money as expected. This isn't 1998 when you could bullshit people into believing there's significant cost savings of going to the internet.

iPad adoption rate faster than DVD, says analyst

Oct 6th 2010 1:28PM (TUAW.com)
Sample size. We're talking about 6 months of sales. Not very long to establish a trend. Talk to me next year and tell me if the Ipad managed this brisk pace. Talk to me in 2012 and let me know if it continued to match DVD's pace.

How's that battle on the PSP going for Sony?

Why I'm not excited about the new Apple TV

You can output 1080p via component. But not all TVs will accept such a signal.

Sony announces 160GB and 320GB PS3 models for Europe (Update: North America too!)

I wished they'd kept the 120gb model around and dropped it to $250.

Especially for a $2 game.

How would you change Apple's HDMI-equipped Mac mini?

Aug 14th 2010 5:58PM (Engadget)
Make it easier to upgrade the hard drive, or to add a 2nd drive while removing the DVD. I hated the putty knife solution on previous models and this one isn't any better.

Report: Rush Limbaugh tears into Chevy Volt, fails to understand how it works [*Updated]

Jul 29th 2010 12:32PM (Autoblog)
"However, suggesting that the federal $7,500 tax credit for plug-in vehicles like the Volt and the Nissan Leaf was there as an admission that no one wants these vehicles strikes us as disingenuous at best, especially when you recall the tax write-offs that were available to people buying Hummers and other large SUVs just a few years ago"

The tax breaks being talked about are completely different animals. The SUV tax break was for (small?) businesses and has absolutely zero relevance to the desirability of a given product by consumers. This tax break is directed at consumers.
