It was a great event, and if you've got the chance to go to some of the upcoming ones you're in for a treat. I've posted some notes on some of the games at http://www.gamingnexus.com/Default.aspx?Section=FullNews&I=4519

and we've got some new pics and impressions of the Chatpad at http://www.gamingnexus.com/Default.aspx?Section=FullNews&I=4510

Microsoft sticks a fork in Vista, it's done

Nov 9th 2006 1:20PM (Joystiq)
Wedge - No more NT @ the desktop level, MS got rid of NT with XP (XP Home /XP Pro). Vista comes in somewhat similar flavors.

While you don't have to have Vista to run these new games, you do have to have DX10 and since MS isn't releasing DX10 for XP you have to upgrade. Probably not @ launch but sometime next year.

Forgot to put this in the previous comment but I'm pretty sure the new re-build of EVE Online (Kali?) is using DX10 as well.

Well you'll need DX10 for Crysis and Age of Conan as well as Halo2 so you'll have to upgrade some time next year.

Corporate world only gets what 2 versions vs. the 4-5 that consumers will have as well. Plus I'm guessing they are probably getting the DL version instead of having a packaged version. As was mentioned earlier it's about getting IT prepared for it more than anything else (gotta test those in house apps)

Overheard: polite clapping for Nintendo is quite enough, fanboys

May 19th 2006 12:05AM (Joystiq)
I think the point that some people are missing is that the various companies pad their press conferences with people they know will cheer. At the Sony event this year I was situated between a bunch of the Sony GAP people who aren't journalists but members of their community. These were the howler monkeys who were making all the noise at the Sony event and from what I've heard Nintendo brings them in as well and I would guess Microsoft does the same thing.

The problem lies with the assumption that everyone at the press conference is a journalist/blogger/whatever, it's just not the case (much like the attendees of the exhibition itself)

- The side walkways behind and to the side of the booths are your friends as trying to cross the show floor is never a good idea.
- Don't pick up the magazines at the start of the show as they just weigh you down...I know it's tempting but that new issue of wired magazine will feel like a 10lb weight 5 hours after you pick it up.
- Shower every day, the rest of the attendees will thank you.
- Comfortable shoes are aided by comfy socks
- Before you got make a list of everything you want to see and cross the games off as you see them
- Make peace with the fact that you'll miss something at the show
- Take time to explore Kentia, there's something cool and new down there almost every year (Kentia - where new technology is born and old technology goes to die)
- There's a great italian place right up the road from the show on Figeroua and they don't charge an arm and a leg

How I Met Your Mother: The Sweet Taste of Liberty

Perfect role for Neil Patrick Harris (kind of an extention to the role he had on Harold and Kumar) and the chick who played Willow is also strong on the show (although it seems a bit of an extention of her American Pie role). The bit where he sent the camera phone photos was awesome.
