Stay smart, avoid Stay Alive

Mar 24th 2006 5:38PM (Joystiq)
@ #7...

This was the second... the first being Runaway Jury, which was by no means a small film. They even used the name of the company serveral times as the place of business of John Cusack's character.

Also, I don't own the company and to be honest, the link was just to prove that it exists and I wasn't just some kid saying "Yeah, I read the script and it sucked." Just trying to give myself some credibility -- which is my first mistake -- it's the internet. No one has credibility.

Stay smart, avoid Stay Alive

This was filmed in one of our retail locations (http://thegametrader.com) although I'm not sure if they cut those scenes or not. It was filmed in New Orleans (pre-Katrina). I read the script (since I'm upper management, I was lucky enough to snag a copy for a few minutes.)

I laughed the whole time I read it.

And not because it was funny.

The dialog was stale, boring, and very typical. The plot seemed like someone watched The Ring once and then a year later tried to rewrite what they saw, but replacing the word "video tape" with "video game." And then making Frankie Munez say the F word in the last scene because there's a running joke about how he's a goody-goody who never gets angry or curses.

I'll go see it anyway, like I did when they filmed Runaway Jury in one of our stores, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Rumor: Revolution to be renamed this Thursday

I've always liked the idea of the N5, being Nintendo's 5th console. But, I don't think Nintendo wants to do the whole numbering thing that Sony and Microsoft seem to be doing.

I've always assumed Nintendo would tie it into a retro theme. What with the NES themed SP, the NES Classics for GBA, the downloadable classic titles for the Revolution, I think Nintendo knows where the money's at.

Firefox 2.0 alpha release uploaded

I dunno... Flock seems to render pages faster on my machine than FF2. Maybe the final version will make me switch back to FireFox.

Try to 'Stay Alive' through the trailer

Mar 2nd 2006 4:09PM (Joystiq)
They filmed this in New Orleans and filmed parts of it in one of our stores (http://thegametrader.com). We're the same store that Runaway Jury was filmed in.

I read the script and the trailer makes it look better than it really is. I'll probably go see it anyway, out of curiosity.

Apple to face iPod/iTunes antitrust suit

Feb 10th 2006 11:59AM (TUAW.com)
I don't get this at all. Don't like the retrictions of an iPod? Buy a Creative player. It's not that difficult to do. It's called shopping. If I like everything about a car stereo except it won't tune down to 87.7 (which some don't), I'm not going to sue them. I'll just buy another brand. Done and done.

Possible Revolution Interface #8: the humorous approach

Jan 30th 2006 12:18AM (Joystiq)
#18 -- Seriously, this is a BLOG. Blogs aren't CNN. They don't need to follow typical journalism tactics. Not only that, this is a blog about _video games_, not a blog about video games _news_. Seriously, is there anywhere on Joystiq that claims it's a site developed purely for video game related news? No. It's a blog. Blogs don't stick to one format or one type of story, especially with more than one writer. Get over it. If you can do a better job, then do it, otherwise, move on.

The Postal Service speaks about Intel Ad

Jan 20th 2006 12:42PM (TUAW.com)
I think it's funny how everyone's whining about Ben whining about the video. It's the same thing he's doing.

Personally, I'm a HUGE fan of both the Postal Service and Death Cab and I didn't know the original video existe dbefore all this. I'd say maybe Ben has a right to say "Man, that kinda blows." Which is what he did. The "blogsphere" once again is making a mountain out of a mole hill.

The short and skinny of the whole thing is that it was all done by the same directors and the directors got lazy and used the same idea over and didn't say anything to Apple or Sub Pop or The Postal Service. TPS shouldn't be pissed at Apple if they're pissed at all. If anything, I'd call up the directors and be like "Hey, uh, wtf?"

BTW, the Iron & Wine version of the song is used in an M&M's commercial. Let's see how long it takes us bloggers to turn that into a story about theft.
