Sure they would sell better. But the big question is whether the developers and publishers and retailers et al would earn a better profit overall. Were they to sell a $60 game for $40, they might see a lot more sales, but every sale earns them less money. The question is whether the increased number of overall sales is -enough- to make up for the comparable loss for each individual sale.

Also, it's one thing to say, "Games should be cheaper, they are too expensive!", but you have to consider that games are getting considerably more and more expensive to make. It's honestly ridiculous how much developers have to spend to get a title out the door that can even remotely compare to the quality of today's AAA games.

As such, if games cost more and more to make and less and less to buy, that probably doesn't sound like a good investment for developers or publishers.

Something to think about.
