"Is what Tony did that different from the Kennedys running alcohol though the country during prohibition?"
Well for one the Kennedys were actually real people, and two there is no evidence that JFK's dad was actually a bootlegger. But still, I don't see how you can equate sneaking alcohol in from Canada with building a empire by killing people and selling coke.
And I'm sure if you were hiring someone you wouldn't care if the guy had photographs of presidents or photographs of fictional criminals around his home. What's the difference, right?
"You may want to learn how the unemployment figures are gotten in the United States. Big hint a large portion of unemployed Americans aren't counted if they are not looking for work for more then four weeks."
That's an interesting theory but you'd have to show that the difference is significant. But more importantly you can look at other employment indicators such as jobless claims and payroll data that show a much better employment situation than France and Germany. GDP growth has also been better in the U.S. which leads me to believe that our country is in fact producing more jobs.
A lot of people seem to think that watching the Daily Show and hating Bush makes you some kind of political savant. It doesn't, so please pull your head out of your ass. Thank you.
"As for the difficulties of programming: I personally believe that it's a necessary requirement for a healthy console industry. The message we hear from Carmack and Microsoft (who are both awfully PC centric) is that developers need better tools to take advantage of hardware from the start."
Microsoft is PC centric? Gee I wonder why. Some people here seem to have no idea as to how much work goes into a game. Go take a look at the Quake 3 source code, it contains about 325,000 lines of code. So no it does not make sense for the hardware to be unnecessarily difficult. Creating a game like Quake 3 is already unbelievably complicated.
Developers are not lazy. It's actually one of the toughest programming jobs around and demands long workdays. Making games is not like making movies, so shut the hell up unless you know what you are talking about.
Most people couldn't write an atari 2600 game to save their lives so give developers a break if they want simplified hardware.
"One recent example of broad censorship I can think of is movie theatres refusing to show "Brokeback Mountain" because proprietors thought it glorified "the gay lifestyle."
That's not censorship because you still had access to it, but if the government banned the movie then it would be censorship. Movie theatres can choose movies for whatever reason they want because they are privately owned. They can't show every movie so they have to decide which ones will sell best to the local demographic. Trying to charge them with censorship would be silly.
"Karl Rove your school may have more liberal hecklers, but the more prominent free speech deniers tend to be conservative. I don't want to generalize so I will say not always, but they tend to be people who are for censorship because of Christian values. Think of Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson."
It's not just my school. Show me an instance where a liberal speaker was pied by a conservative student.
Political correctness, a creation by liberals, is an entire doctrine of speech control. What has Falwell and Robertson ever created as an equivalent? Yes I know Hollywood likes to depict the Falwell crowd as the enemy of free speech but if you take a closer look you'll notice that it is liberals that have really been pushing for control of individual thought.
"And it's stupid to say that most liberals are closet socialists because wikipedia defines it as"
I don't pay much attention to wikipedia political definitions as they tend to be written by people that want to favorably define themselves.
Check out the Socialist Party USA platform for yourself and you'll see that what they want is almost exactly the same agenda of liberals. http://sp-usa.org/platform/
"Democrats traditionally have no position on morality-based legislation - it is, in fact, one big reason why they lost the South long ago. They're all for free media."
Not true, liberals are against any type of speech that threatens their politically correct ideology. At my college the people calling for censorship in the local paper were always liberal students. It's also always liberal students that boo and try to shout down conservative speakers, not the other way around. Any conservative speaker trying to present his ideas in a professional manner can expect heckling and personal insults if he goes on a college tour. Even the liberal faculty will take part in the heckling, just look at what happened recently at New School. Liberal speakers don't have to deal with this problem.
I would also like to point out however that most liberals aren't actually Democrats, they're closet socialists.
"This is a crummy thing to say, but do you suppose that more cars are stolen on the West Coast and in Nv/Az because there are increasing numbers of (illegal)immigrants flowing to these areas?"
It's not crummy at all, I live in Washington state and everyone refers to Yakima as the East L.A. of Washington. It's majority Hispanic and has a huge illegal population. God forbid we actually look at who commits crime in America.
PC-Police you may now begin the ritual of flaming and providing excuses for the ethically challenged.
"While Joystiq does not support using 'gay' in a derogatory sense"
Well you guys are gay then for taking yourselves so seriously. Everyone uses derogatory terms, even people that claim not to. Liberals for example shun people that use the word gay but have no problem throwing around "fundy," "fat-cat," "red-stater" or "hick" when describing groups of people that they enjoy degrading and stereotyping.
