Valve commends Team Fortress 2 'Guard Dog' concept creator

Sep 22nd 2009 7:24PM (Joystiq)
Valve you are going about this the wrong way please stop before you self destruct. You have to take all fun out of making videogames, that guy shouldn't be commended he should be sued for every penny his got for using your art assets. Follow the Kotick commandments and save your business :)

EA Sports: 'How big can football get?' Us: 'Pretty big, we guess?'

Sep 21st 2009 8:19PM (Joystiq)
A great part of the appeal of football is the irrational love for your team. I may be watching a very boring match but if my team is playing I enjoy watching it more than a great match for two teams that mean nothing to me. I still enjoy to see good matches from other teams but I find that for most people the love for the team surpasses the love for the sport.

Talking about boring you guys must really love baseball, now that's a boring sport :)

Microsoft confirms Xbox 360 802.11n adapter

Sep 21st 2009 6:25PM (Joystiq)
I'm sure if you look for a deal you can get an access point the supports N for less than 100$. Microsoft sure takes a risk with this decision of not offering wi-fi in the box, the money they make on these adapters has to be a lot to offset the potential costumers they lose to Sony or the ones that never connect to live because of it.

Left 4 Dead 'Crash Course' campaign DLC free on PC, $7 on 360 - this September

Aug 4th 2009 2:04PM (Joystiq)
There is no surprise, on PC Valve owns the infrastructure the downloads cost are minimal and considering you can download the game as many times as you want this doesn't even factor into the equation. On the 360 if they don't charge anything they have to pay Microsoft for the downloads. Another fact is on Steam in TF2 every time there is new content there's a promotion and sales spike, this is probably going to happen on the L4D, the new sales pay for the content for everyone, on 360 probably there is no data that assure the game sells more in stores with new content and if it does it probably is used copies so no value for Valve

Analyzing the climbing price of XBLA games

Jul 22nd 2009 9:16PM (Joystiq)
I don't live in the US but with 5$ I can actually buy 3 beers, in a actual not very expensive bar in the supermarket I can buy about 10 beers :), but if I want a new disc based game for the 360 I would spend about 70€ = 100$, thats why I mostly play the PC and buy games from Steam or the UK stores

For those complaning about the rise of price of games realeased on Arcade do you want the store to be comprise only of sloppy ports of old arcade and genesis games? because that's what you get for 5$, now if you want newer bigger and richer games you have to pay $15 and if you do a honest comparison you can get much more hours of enjoyment from these $15 games than most of 60$ disc games. In my view if the game is good 15$ is a fair price, in fact as mostly a PC Gamer I have to thank the Arcade service to bring the cost of these type of games down because they usually cost 20$ to 30$ on PC but the lower prices on consoles as transitioned to the PC

Sony: PlayStation Eye can recognize faces -- right now

Jul 16th 2009 10:46PM (Joystiq)
Well every webcam is capable of that, you just need the software, that is apparently already supplied by Sony, but no one uses it, but any company could implement their one or buy existing technology. The difference in Natal, if rumors are correct, there is more than one camera for stereoscopic vision, and there will be a chip in there that runs some of the algorithms needed for face recognition , of course both the cell and the 360 processor could run this algorithms, but the idea probably is to not overburden the processor with this so it can continue to be used in full for running the game itself.

UK sales: Wii and DS up top; 360 besting PS3 at the bottom

Jul 2nd 2009 12:58PM (Joystiq)
Xbox doing well in the UK outsold the Wii in the last 6 months http://www.gamegroup.plc.uk/gg/media/releases/2009/2009-07-02/, a trend for the year or a bump on the road for the Wii?
