Man uses Prey to track stolen MacBook Pro hundreds of miles, calls thief

May 15th 2011 11:12PM (TUAW.com)
This is the part I'm wondering. My mac's set to require password when logging in and waking up from screensaver. If someone has that enabled and their computer is stolen, then what happens? I assume all you could do was restart the computer from scratch right?

Knight & Day was the movie I loved this year which not many people watched. Whoever did watch enjoyed it too.

Mac Mini gets a sneaky update: spec bump, unibody enclosure, HDMI

Jun 15th 2010 2:38PM (TUAW.com)
Same boat as me. I ordered a reburbished MAC MINI 2.53ghz w/ 4gb RAM and 320gb Hard Drive in April. It was $679.00 + tax. I also go the printer Canon PIXMA MX330 Office All-in-One printer which was free after rebate. Since I already have a printer, I plan to sell for prob $50ish or something so I can knock a little more off my Mac Mini price. How much better are the new Mac Minis than what I have? I have my Mac Mini connected to my Dell U2410 via DVI, what am I losing by not connectinv via HDMI. I don't think the SD card slot's important to me either.

Apple refreshes MacBook Pro family with Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors... at long last!

@aarlof I like going the refurb route too. Usually something that helps offset the cost of tax is the $100 on a printer. You can just sell this on ebay to make some of your money back.

@Kelmon I was sort of on the same boat as you. My primary computer right now is my 15" 2.2ghz MacBook Pro C2D SR. My wife's is 1.6ghz MacBook Air Rev B. Was looking for a secondary home computer for both of us and after getting caught up in the iMac threads I was ready to drop the money on a refurbished 27" iMac i7. I figured I would use it more and more to get my money's worth.

But then I remembered that I would be updating my Macbook Pro this year (I usually sell my mac laptop before its applecare is up) and figured the update would be a very powerful computer. So I just went w/ the 2.53ghz Mac Mini refurbed which should get to me soon.

I also don't like the whole screen and computer in one thing w/ the iMacs.

what's better? flip4mac or perian? I think I usually go with flip4mac although lately I've been noticing vlc is playing .wmv files. I'm not sure when this was started since I don't update my VLC very often

Your first Apple, or how it all began...

Feb 11th 2010 4:26AM (TUAW.com)
When I got back into the mac world, the 15" PowerBook Titanium was what I went with too. I think it was the 550mhz but I can't remember. This was 2002 I believe. Prior to that, I have some vague recollections of an Apple IIe but I don't know any details.

Since then, my primary computer has always been a mac and my wife's computer since 2004 or 2005 I believe has also been a Mac.
