The whole idea of these new forms of media are to take advantage of the medium! Podcasts are supposed to do what text can't, video is supposed to do what podcasts can't. This tutorial just gives you a talking head....it is not taking advantage of the medium of video. Video cameras are portable, you don't need a studio, you don't need a computer to film...get a digital still camera that does video, get a video camera and go out and film things, import them into imovie and have a blast making cool content...then just get your butt over to www.freevlog.org and learn all the technical aspects of compression, posting, feeds, etc.....apple really doesn't get video blogs...
clutch makes an uneducated assumption.
"vodcasting" does not require more than what most alreaady have.
1. a camera (you can use your digital still or webcam take internet-quality video)
2. editing software (windows XP and OSX come with free video editing programs which work great)
3. Bandwidth (Ourmedia.org, blip.tv, both offer unlimited bandwidth, unlimited server space and the assurance that your content will be on the internet long after you die FOR FREE!!!)
4. Time (you can film something and then directly upload it, blip even has a service that will record from safari and post it to your blog immediatley, you can email video posts from a phone and they will post it directly, remember this is all free, you can take days to edit an epic video, or 15 minutes to make a number of posts [check out www.speedvlogging.com])
Do some research, then start talking....
Honestly people, catch up with the times...you can call them what you will but video blog/vlog are the 2 most popular terms
second, NZ needs to cool his jets when it comes to ripping on independant video creators...there is so much good content out there it is way too hard to sift through. I try to do that at joshspsicks.blogspot.com but it is hard to keep up with it all.
Third, DTV is an infant of a program compared to FireANT. It is made especially for the video blog, with tagging, flagging, commenting, filtering, it has it all. (and will soon have ipod video-export) getfireant.com
fourth, this advent of the ipod that does video, is just crying for short-length, small filesize, 3X4 aspect ratio content...Where do we find this content for free? Video blogs.
fifth, really interested in video blogging? go to www.wearethemedia.com, to find out what's going on in the "vlogosphere" and then drop the microphone, and start your own at freevlog.org
the media revolution is upon us, don't fall behind.
Who says that they are "movie curtains?" Maybe they are Theatre curtains. Maybe Steve and Woz are hitting Broadway in their updated Mac-centric version of "The iProducers" Steve has that star quality to him...Now all he needs to do is prove he can sing
