Gotta go with the home team. Good ol' US of A!

Epic trailer and screens for Tournament of Legends

Well, the game may sound on the short side for a fighter, with a small roster, but it comes at a cheap price and, I have to say, I think its looking pretty good! I'd be interested in trying it out for myself.

Hasbro Family Game Night 3 coming this fall with five more board games

May 12th 2010 12:55PM (Joystiq)
I haven't bought any of the other game compilations, although I have thought about it. However, with this one having Clue, Life, and Mouse Trap, I will seriously have to think about picking this one up. My girls and I have at one time or another had all three of these games, but they like to pull games apart and use the parts separately and use them for other "imagination" games, so the parts all slowly get lost. Plus, since we all love to play the Wii together, this would just be a perfect compilation.

But...I have to agree with the article...TWISTER??? WTF???

As said earlier, not if you play Mouse Trap by the rules. By the rules, the trap is set up bit by bit as players work their way around the board. You don't set up the whole trap right away, and race to the the end to be trapped.

Review: Monster Hunter Tri

Apr 28th 2010 1:36PM (Joystiq)
In my opinion, the game does a pretty good job of teaching you the ropes of how to play, and this is from someone for whom this is their first Monster Hunter game. In the single player game, I am only on the third tier of quests, and I am STILL getting missions that I haven't gotten before. With each mission, the game does a fairly good job of letting you know what needs to be done in each new situation as you you head out for it. Also, before you can even GET to the actual game quests, there are several smaller missions you must do which teach you the basics of the controls and what you will be doing in the game with collecting resources.

FINALLY my wait for Monster Hunter Tri is going to be over. HUZZAH!! Thinking about just heading to Gamestop in the morning and hanging out until it comes in so I can get my copy right away. :-D

I wouldn't say that Fragile was "bad". I personally loved the game. Sure the combat was meh, but the different weapon types helped break it up a little bit. For me, the game was all about the characters and the story, and the beauty of the world. I don't usually play a game straight from start to finish, without breaking up play times with other games...but for Fragile I did. Sat down...started it...played it till I couldn't stay awake...then came back the next morning and went out it till it was done. I loved the game, and still plan on going back and playing through with the Japanese voice track. Maybe its just one of those games that is an acquired taste?

On the other hand, I see Monster Hunter Tri as being a game like that for me...sit down and just go at it. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow. :)

NPD: Red Steel 2 sold 50,000 copies through April 3

Apr 17th 2010 10:32PM (Joystiq)
I agree with Mr. Khan on this one. Many of the "million seller" games on Wii did not sell that million in just a week or two, but spread over several months. All of the CoD games on Wii are examples of this: all of them are million sellers, but they did it over months. There have been plenty of Wii games that had weak initial sales (which were trumpeted over gaming websites about how this proves that the games won't sell on Wii) but went on to sell quite well over time (which you then DON'T hear about on gaming sites, so people don't think about it). And then again, there are those games that don't necessarily need to sell a million copies to be considered a success by the creators of the game. Examples would be MadWorld and No More Heroes. Both games are niche titles, and have sold moderately well. NMH sold better than any of Suda51's games before, and he was wildly happy about it, so much so that we got the glorious NMH2, and he'd even like to continue the series further. MadWorld sold well enough that Platinum Games have said they would like to continue the story of Jack into a sequel. Success is not necessarily measured by the 1 million yard stick; that's just the arbitrary line that we gamers set for games to be measured against.

I agree with you completely that gaming is moving out of its classical mold of being for males and instead being for everybody. I have to say, though, that we need to wait and see about Red Steel 2. Moving 50,000 units in just a couple of weeks is pretty good, I think, for a game that had totally kneecapped advertising. I've not seen the game anywhere but gamer magazines or websites. Another thing that I have to agree with others on, is that Wii games usually seem to have a much longer tail than non-Wii games, particularly the (and I hate to use the term) "hardcore" games. They may not sell a million copies right away, but over time they build up to that number or higher. Modern Warfare Reflex Edition is a good example. It started out okay, and if it hasn't already passed the million mark, its pretty damn close (same with the other CoD games sold on Wii...I think they are all million sellers at least). The core Wii games just take a while to sell. I think its because there are so many consoles out there that belong to families and not just core players. Average families don't go out and buy a couple of games a week or month. They play what they have, go out to the stores, and happen to spot games that they might like every now and again. This brings the sales slowly up to par. I'm waiting to see what the sales of Monster Hunter Tri are like (mine has been pre-ordered for a while now), both initial and tail end sales. The sadder thing about the way Wii sells games, is that you never really hear about it on gaming sites. Initial sales yes...but not really much about how games have sold in full numbers, say 6 or 7 or more months into the games life. I wish we did, which is why I have to rely on sites like VGChartz (I know....bad rep) to watch game sales over time.

Well, Gamestop has it on sale now for $30 during their "new game hot deals" thing. I've been considering picking it up myself to play with my girls. They beg me to buy it every time we go into Gamestop.
