if you actually pay attention to the actual state of the world this conflict should come as absolutely no surprise.

Edge proclaims Halo 3 most innovative game of 2007, 2008

Aug 12th 2008 2:49PM (Joystiq)
i don't care how well the touted 'innovative' features in halo 3 were done, they're just the next iterative incrementing of features in console fpses. and the things being cited aren't central to actual gameplay, they're periphery ... a level editor, a theatre, a matchmaking service? i'm sorry but if we're discussing innovation in games i think the conversation should actual be centered on core gameplay and not the nuts and bolts behind the multiplayer experience.

what a fucking joke.

Diablo III art director leaves Blizzard, game's visual style to be 'maintained'

thank you john

the first few minutes of that reveal video were just painful with the barbarian monotonously chopping away. of course you can't call blizzard out on much of anything without the blizz defense force rushing to the rescue.

uh buttons aren't the only way to play, no. yes the iphone has motion detection and a touch screen. however neither of these inputs is ideal for gaming purposes. one, using the motion detection involves tilting the screen itself. this limits your amount of tilt because at some point you're not going to be able to see the screen without craning your neck with the tilt, and with that confined range of motion the sensitivity and accuracy of tilt control has to suffer. second the touch screen only responds to skin, you cannot use your fingernail and you cannot use a stylus. you bring up the ds ninja gaiden, try playing that with wide, inaccurate fingertips instead of a much more precise input like a stylus.

there's only so much that can be pulled off for gaming with the iphone. and no buttons is still the biggest problem it has.

NPD: Wii hits 10.9m US sales, becomes console leader

Jul 17th 2008 8:51PM (Joystiq)
i was a rabid pc gamer when i was a kid/teenager, my dad's credit card was maxed out when he went to buy us (5 kids) a nintendo, he decided it was an act of god and made a commitment to never buy us a console ever.

so i grew up with pcs and fpses became my favorite games. then, basically, halo came out and fps devs started catering more and more to the console crowd to the point now where the pc versions are afterthoughts and developed with consoles in mind. so you 'hardcore' gamers who get fucking orgasmic with your dumbed down halo et al. can fuck off. thanks for ruining my favorite genre. (doom is still the best fps, as smb3 is to platformers)

your problem here is that nintendo is winning. they've more or less have always been catering to a decidedly casual/family oriented market, going back to the nes, so this generation doesn't really reflect a change in their philosophy. they just had better ideas, like the wiimote, which apart from its non 1:1 deficiency (although we'll see with wiimotion) and a poor performance from developers in utilizing its potential, is still a very captivating idea to the public and it's a pretty good piece of hardware; not to mention a much better business model going into this gen.

so they're winning right now. get over it.

yeah i've played it, unfortunately. its lack of any immersion is one of the major strikes against it.
