Bastion launch trailer is part prologue, briefly anti-log

Jul 18th 2011 6:15PM (Joystiq)
@TwEE

I tend to disagree. First, you aren't paying $60 (or even $20) for the game. The need to resell or share is diminished greatly. Second, name one other place this happens? PC gaming. Even with physical discs, you often need single-use keys to play the game, making it worthless on the used market. Or DRM-protected apps or music (even physical CDs sometimes).

Stringer issues apology for 'inconvenience and concern' caused by PSN breach

May 6th 2011 2:36PM (Joystiq)
Stringer says that, "to date, there is no confirmed evidence any credit card or personal information has been misused, and we continue to monitor the situation closely."
Haha, I'll be sure to call him myself. I had a fraudulent account opened in my name on... wait for it... April 21st! zomg, the coincidence!

Xbox Live status warns of phishing in Modern Warfare 2 messages

@Agies "It's a security issue with being a person."

That may be the best thing I've read (on or off of the Internet) this month.

Sony still investigating scope of PSN attack as maintenance outage enters Day 6

Apr 25th 2011 1:20PM (Joystiq)
@xxZOMBIExx I agree that they are not legally BOUND to do anything, from from a custom satisfaction perspective, they certainly should. It was one thing when there was an outage due to a hack. Now that they have voluntarily disabled PSN, I think they are playing with fire. I've been in the ITSec biz for a while and have performed plenty of audits and network forensics. These things CAN be done in a live, active environment. Sony is CHOOSING to hinder access to their network to make it easier for them, thus choosing themselves over their customers. That is bad, bad mojo.

I just don't even know what to say. I want to be horrified, but at the same time, it's kind of cool.

Sound off: New Xbox 360 Dashboard

I love it (from the beta) but today i can't sign into Live at all, not even on the website. So, not only no update, but no games. Argh!

Sound off: New Xbox 360 Dashboard

Nov 1st 2010 1:34PM (Joystiq)
@MrMagicMushroom In game voice chat is managed by the game itself, which is why dashboard beta testers could still talk to people with the old dash in game, but couldn't communicate via party chat with the same people.

I believe the games can CHOOSE to use the default channel/codec, but I am not positive. I'm sure it's available moving forward though. However, developers could use whatever codec they chose to before.

Greenberg: Xbox 360 was top-selling console for fourth month in a row

Oct 15th 2010 1:21PM (Joystiq)
@Mayor West

I did. To replace my SE MW2 360 (which is going to another room). The MW2 one was to replace my (now repaired) original Elite. The Elite was purchased to get a HDD larger than 20GB. Other than the old Pro, they all still work. Apparently I'm a sucker...
