Sprint to begin throttling data this summer? (update: not exactly)

Jun 11th 2010 3:19PM (Engadget)
One of the first lessons I learned after moving to the USA was/is "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE RIDE".
The fact of the matter is that this is not yet implemented or even explained. We have no idea what this means or how we will be affected. Lots of conjecture, but no facts. This does not change my mind about getting the EVO (if I can find one). Just like AT&T's caps will not change those that will buy the iPhone 4. We always find a way around things like this; let just chill and enjoy our phones.

Sprint to begin throttling data this summer? (update: not exactly)

This is unfortunate, but really not that bad. We really don't know any details about this yet, but I would say throttling is better than capping. This might be as a result of the "FREE" tethering functionality afforded to android devices. I think it is very sensible to throttle high usage, to preserve traffic integrity. This is, after all, one of the most basic ways of QoS for public internet access. I use this functionality at my place of employment, as we provide free internet access and access to PCs. People come in and download movies, music, games, you name it, and can suck up all of our bandwidth. I just read in one of the comments that one person canceled their DSL service in favor of just tethering to their evo. That could be a network killing trend. I mean no disrespect to the person that posted, just trying to figure this out.

iPhone 4's seams explained, ready to solve AT&T call issues? (video)

@Jack Although I do like to tinker, I have to say that the iPhone "screws up" quite a bit. I have to reboot it 3 times a months due to slow down, GPS, or browser crashes (thanks engadget!). This might be due to the fact that I use my phone constantly. It is my pseudo laptop :RDP,SSH, even a bit of document editing and dev work, right on the phone, mostly thanks to cydia, no app store stuff here. Like I mentioned before, I've had my device since release. I have used the shit out of it. I am not a party to the iPhone vs android war, just airing my opinion like everyone else. It is boring to "me" because, while I like consistency, it seems that the iOS does not really evolve much. Same thing with Mac OS X (I own 2 macs as well, BTW). If all I needed was a phone, I would buy a nokia brick. The iPhone started a revolution, but, to me in particular, it's starting to look a bit dated. I have no brand loyalty, I just buy what I want at the time. Right now iPhone 4 is just not what I want. for that matter, I don't know if android is either, but at least it's different.

iPhone 4's seams explained, ready to solve AT&T call issues? (video)

I've had the iPhone since it was released. Last year I upgraded to the 3GS, and I've been content with it. iPhone 4 is not an upgrade that I am interested in. There really isn't anything innovative about it, it seems to be the same iPhone with a higher res screen, faster CPU and a front facing camera. iOS4 is not really that much different than iOS3. As a techie, the iphone has become quite boring. I use my device constantly, and it does "just work". The app store really doesn't make a difference to me, as most of the apps I use are for cydia. I really don't use it as a music player or video player. Can't really use it as a flash drive without complications. To me it's a matter of choice : for my purposes, the iphone is becoming much too limiting and limited, ATT SUCKS ASS!!, and the OS is boring. I am thinking of buying either an EVO or an INCREDIBLE. My wife has a droid and loves it. She hates my iPhone and she is not techie at all.

RIM demos new WebKit-based BlackBerry browser at MWC -- it's fast!

Feb 16th 2010 4:55PM (Engadget)
It seems that RIM uses the whole 'it's for business' mantra as an excuse to rehash the same crappy software over and over. I've used 3 BBs,, including the storm and I honestly cannot see a significant difference. I understand that it is a solid messaging platform. There simply is no way to dispute that. But I personally think that smartphones will be the laptops of the future (the japanese use their cellphones for everything). The worlds most popular messaging platforms are all web based. There is no excuse for any handset manufacturer to exploit a niche market (like business messaging). I agree with the person that said they should have released this three years ago. That is why they will slowly, but surely lose market share, and that is why I have an iphone and my wife a droid. We can do nearly everything we need to do on them without compromise. I returned my storm to my boss and explained why, and she decided to change as well. I guess we will see what happens.

Tretton: PS3 will be "difficult to cost reduce"

Jan 22nd 2007 6:47PM (Joystiq)
Retail stores have plenty of PS3s in stock and they aren't moving. There really is no reason to buy the PS3 right now. Not many games, no franchises on board yet (they seem to be wating for the installed base to increase), other projects seem to have stalled. the only thing the PS3 has going for it is linux, so PS3 owners can enjoy playing SNES and gameboy games..., there also always tuxracer...
I really do hope they find a way to make the PS3 sell. I think it is a good system, and it does pack a whole lot, but 600 f'ing dollars ?!! I can't do it.

Xbox 360 gets its first DS game

It looks like a Live Arcade Title. Even at some point in the text there seems to be a reference to it. That could explain the low quality graphics, etc.

Riiiiiiiiiiidge Racer! Xbox 360 vs. PS3 screens

Nov 14th 2006 2:21PM (Joystiq)
We are all guilty of being eyecandy bitches. I doubt that there will be much difference between 360 and ps3 games, specially those that are made for multiple platforms, since the graphics engine will be almost identical. The higher res is not really a selling point for me. My TV supports 1080i and I don't intend to spend 3K to buy a 1080p set with HDMI. The games are what sells a console, not the other way 'round. I own a 360, a PS2, and am waiting for my Wii. I was going to buy a PS3 at launch, but I have yet to see a game or 3, that are worth the investment. Still, I am sure I will get one next year.
