It's possible that the USB connection is just to communicate with the Xbox. The HD DVD unit may have its own HDMI out then.

I've downloaded all of the game demos arcade and xbox, and 2 movie trailers.

all 360 games are live enabled, it probably is just for achievments.

I just got this remote on Tuesday. It took maybe 30 minutes to program the remote. I set it up for 8 devices (TV, Receiver, TiVo, DVD, 360, PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube). I haven't gotten a chance to really play with it, but so far I like it.
