Halo 3 hits No. 1 on Japanese sales charts

Oct 4th 2007 3:46PM (Joystiq Xbox)
@#3 I'm game! I'm on the west coast but I'll join up with you after work. I'm in the same boat. None of my friends have or play the game so I'm on my own playing with strangers.

@#4 - He probably wrote 2 "o"'s in there because in Japanese the "o" is stretched out when you pronounce it - so it a more accurate description. Kinda like - do-omo. We have no equivalent in english.

When is it okay to pass little Jimmy the Gears of War?

I have a 7 y/o boy that I try to keep from seeing me watch GoW but he's walked in on me trying to sneek a round here and there. He censored himself. Didn't like the blood and gore. 4 months later he's a bit curious about it and I finally let him watch me play GoW and Crackdown. He get's that it's fantasy and not reality. Crackdown is so cartoony that I'm not too concerned. I'm still not sure about GoW so I still limit how much he get's to see. He actually asked me to play once and I had to shut him down. I'm not sure if it's that HE'S not ready or I'M not ready for him to go around blasting and chainsawing people....even if it's just a game.

Luckily he's far more interested in Viva Pinata or Animal Crossing. He's also deep into Sonic and Lego Star Wars.

Study: Educational software doesn't work

Oh Man! I saw that screen cap of the Oregan trail and something rang inside my head. Why does it look so familiar??? It's all coming back now! I was a little kid playing that at school and HATED it! I can't believe my teachers were palming this off as a video game. It sucked...it sucked BAD!.

Props to Slaor - Someone should create an XBLA for 25 y/o and older....for people with jobs...and a life....yes...I'm bitter at getting my ass handed to me by 12 year olds, high schoolers and college kids who play all night and day...

sigh...

DAMN YOU RESPONSIBILITY!!!!!!

Poll: How much are you playing 360?

Mar 2nd 2007 4:17PM (Joystiq)
360 almost everyday. The only system I own (I don't count my son's game cube)

GOW, Crackdown, Marvel Alliance, Battlestatiosn Midway and Burnout. Mostly Crackdown but this week I've been obsessed with Geometry wars. Just got the Pacifist achievement this morning! Just when I want to give up and quit I get better. Game is SO addictictive. But my favorite disc game for the past couple of weeks has been Crackdown for sho!

Casual games consuming 'me time'

Feb 7th 2007 11:16AM (Joystiq)
I'm in my early 30's so grew up in the Atari 2600 era and have been playing games ever since. I work full time, have kids and a significant other so time is hot commodity. I choose to balance my 'me' time between 50% gaming and 50% 'other' (reading, tv, movies, chatting with friends, napping, etc.)

After my first child was born I gave up the idea of playing super challenging games or aiming to beat the long rpg/adventure games. I just play until it isn't fun anymore. If it get's too hard or I have to buy a guide I just move one. I get the meat of the game and that satisfies me. There are so many games out there to try. I do manage to finish a game here and there but not often. So I rent games and buy them rarely because this fits my lifestyle.

One of the best games that seems to work with my style is GOW. It has a casual gamer setting that works perfectly for me. Not too hard but not so easy it's boring to me. Each mission between check points are relatively short so I can cram in 15 minutes here and there. I find it very relaxing to be able to pick up a game for 15-30 minutes at a time and then go make dinner, help out with homework, clean the kitchen...etc.

Is it too early to shop for Christmas?

Nov 16th 2006 7:01PM (ParentDish)
I'm also a shopping crowd-phobe. Last year I did a lot of my shopping online but that was a little too hit and miss for me. I've got most of my shopping done now and plan on finishing it right before thanksgiving. I don't want to have to deal with the hassles of the crowds.
