Sort of Harvest Moon meets the Sims. With copious ammounts of Nintendo charm.

Analysts predict console war outcome, fanboys riot in streets

I love the Wii. It's inevitable victory this gen is well deserved in my books.

People are quick to talk up the superb first party titles like Prime 3, Galaxy, Brawl and Mario Kart (and rightly so) but Capcom has done some great stuff on the system as well. RE4: Wii Edition and Zach & Wiki are incredibly fun and make fantastic use of the Wii controler. Umbrella Chronicles is pretty good and I can't wait to try Okami.

Got a question for Sid Meier? Drop it here

May 28th 2008 9:19AM (Joystiq)
Dear Mr. Meir:

My 47 year-old father has played Civilization III religiously for the past four years. In spite of not playing any videogames ever, hardly a day go by where my dad doesn't enjoys a little world domination with his coffee.

My question: what is the secret to creating a game with this kind of longevity? What makes people come back to your games year after year?

CNET sees PS3 beating Wii ... in 2012

May 22nd 2008 12:23PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Interesting. Even if, as this graph projects, an unforseen miracle gives the PS3 a major boost in 2009 (which is highly questionable) it can only inch ahead Nintendo's "kiddy console" by a tiny margin... in 2012.

No matter how you slice it, Sony's monopoly on the console market is over and this generation is a major win for Nintendo compared to last.

Metareview -- Wii Fit

May 20th 2008 11:19AM (Joystiq)
Perhaps the Wii Fit crowd won't pick up Oblivion of Call of Duty, but I suspect the casual market did give a boost to sales of Brawl and Mario Kart (both of which are on track to exceed the lifetime sales of their Gamecube predecessors.)

And I don't see much of a connection between casual games and shovelware. Quality casual games like Guitar Hero 3 and Wii Fit are the big sellers on Wii for that audience. "Hardcore" gamers can be blamed on the resounding success of licenced games like Spiderman 3 and Transformers.

The hidden emotional depths of Super Mario Galaxy

May 11th 2008 7:03PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Uh.... the "narrative thread" is a series of still screens. With text. That you read. But only if you feel like it. The story itself is completely disonnected and unrelated to the actual gameplay (ie: flawless Miamoto platforming action.) The only real integration of story with game was the two bookend cutscenes.

You can throw in a copy of Mopy Dick with every game of Tetris and it would essentially be the same thing.

Zero Punctuation reviews fanboys

May 7th 2008 7:48PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
He's completely right. Even as an unrepentant Brawl fanatatic, I have no problem with differing opinions as they in no way effect my enjoyment of my favorite game ever.

As he so wisely states, the only ones who get their panties in a bunch over a negative review are the ones with "nagging doubts in the back of their minds that they aren't having that much fun."

Go Yahtzee!

Zero Punctuation has zero tolerance for Brawl

For the record: I totally disagree with many of Yahtzee's criticisms as well. But I also respect his right to express his honest opinion of every game he reviews.

Yahtzeee is a straight shooter. He says exactly what's on his mind 100% of the time, regardless of what others think. That's why his reviews are always so bloody awesome.

Zero Punctuation has zero tolerance for Brawl

Super Smash Bros Brawl is my favorite game ever. Period. A more enjoyable multiplayer experience there is not.

However, It's always great to hear a clever and poignant opinion from someone with a different perspective. Well done Yahtzee! Keep up the great work.
