Latest Samba de Amigo trailer shows Sonic rocking out

Aug 23rd 2008 8:38PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
My plan is to rent it first to see if it still plays the way I remember it. And if it does, you can be damned sure I'm getting those maracas.

Wii Warm Up: Samba de Ulala

Aug 21st 2008 8:36AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Thing is, I haven't heard a single good impression about how well the new control scheme works, so I'm a bit worried about whether this new game will even *work*.

But with Ulala in the game? Gosh, that's at least worth a rent.

Wii Warm Up: Your thoughts on Strong Bad's first episode

Aug 12th 2008 9:09AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I wasn't expecting too much from SBCG4AP. It's Wii Ware, which limits the amount of content they can stuff in there, and it's based on a fairly obscure license.

I think the Homestar Runner fans are the ones who are going to get the most out of this -- seriously, would the uninitiated really be able to appreciate seeing *The Stick* in full 3D glory? -- but I got a couple chuckles from the other members of the family who were watching on.

I don't feel like I've gotten very far because I'm bad at point-and-click-em-ups and I don't want any hints, but what I've seen so far is promising. There's way too much love and real Brothers Chaps input to call this a cash-in on any level. I'm definitely going to get in on the next few episodes.

Even Sega thinks Sonic needs saving

Aug 8th 2008 12:27AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
They say this *every damned time* they make a new Sonic game. "We recognize that previous Sonic games have sort of fallen away from the spirit of the original games, but *this* time we're going to bring him back to his roots TO THE EXTREME!!!"

Now, maybe it's not fair for me to judge, because the last 3D Sonic game I bought was Sonic Adventure 2, but the consensus of reviewers seems to suggest that they haven't recaptured the spirit of the original as consistently as they try to.

They are *never* going to perfectly recapture the spirit of the original Sonic games. And they should stop trying so hard to do the impossible. Sonic needs to move forward, not try and relive his childhood over and over forever.

Even Sega thinks Sonic needs saving

I... agree! At least about the first Sonic Adventure. The Rashomon storytelling was pretty cool, and the music was *awesome*. Seriously, for as much as I hated the fishing levels, Big grew on me because of his theme song.

They had a really cool thing going there.

Gosen: 60% of Wii Fit purchasers played it 'once'

Aug 7th 2008 11:56PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I've played every day for eleven weeks, and I've lost 20 pounds.

Can't be arsed to do it myself, but doesn't the Nintendo Channel track things like how many hours have been spent playing each game? I think it would be interesting, for example, to figure out how many people 40% represents and how many times they must have played it if this statistic of his is correct.

Reggie: Wii storage is a 'mainstream' problem

"Each week, more Virtual Console and WiiWare content releases and gamers can't download because they have no interest in them!"

Fixed.

Wii Warm Up: Still Fit?

Jul 21st 2008 8:48AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I pre-ordered Wii Fit through Amazon, so I got it a couple days after launch. So far I've only missed one day.

I put together a workout routine where I alternate days between Strength and Aerobics, half an hour a day, with one day a week to rest, and I put myself on a diet of small but substantial meals with few sweets and no soda. When I started, I set a goal to lose 20 pounds in three months. As of this morning, I'm 4.0 pounds away from my goal. Boo ya!

I really enjoy the product. I feel like I've gotten my worth out of it, and that I'll continue to do so.

Watch this Active Life trailer from your desk chair

Jul 8th 2008 11:13PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Frankly, I'm intrigued. I bought the Wii in the hopes of seeing more active games, but give or take a Wii Sports, Wii Fit, or Wario Ware, I'm just not feeling it.

I see potential in the gameplay videos and in the ways they use the mat. If I get this game, it won't be for any sort of exercise -- it'll be to play video games that require my input in the form of real-world action. I think there's more you can do with that mat than you can with the Balance Board -- once we have our skiing and skating games, what's left?

The info video on the Nintendo Channel seems to suggest that this'll be part of a series. I think it'll be interesting to watch this one.

Wii Warm Up: Would you buy Wii Sports?

May 24th 2008 3:41PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Wii Sports was my most anticipated game for the system. Seriously.

I would have bought it in a heartbeat for $30. I would have grumbled if it was $50, but I still would have bought it.
