The Joystiq Show - 001: Duke Nukem Forever

Jun 24th 2011 6:26PM (Joystiq)
I can appreciate that change can inspire a lot of naysayers and dare I say I'm not one of them.

I personally enjoyed the new format and it instantly brought back back pleasant memories of the Halo round many moons ago.

While surprised at first that the show was changing deep down the problems with the old format were starting to bother me and I was looking for a change.

There are far too many "morning show" format podcasts and not nearly enough of ones in the new format. I am a renewed fan and I look forward to future shows.

To counter those who think it's sad to see the new format, what I think is truly sad is to see someone's comment being down voted just because they like the new format. It should be evident but that's not the way to get the old show back, it only serves to show how many people are unwilling to accept change.

This is what the Wii U looks like

I know it may sound weird but this may be the first time someone's shown a console by showing the controller first, the console in the pic above is likely just a mock up and not the real thing yet.

Since it's still pretty early I think they have not finalized the console yet including specs and the look. That doesn't mean it won't be playable at E3, I'm sure they will use a prototype of some kind enough to run the tech demos they're showing today.

It's still a pretty good reveal, not as flashy as the Wii but enough to generate interest in learning more.

I realize that they devoted perhaps too much time to Kinect demos for some readers but I personally enjoyed them. Even if there wasn't any day one purchases for me it's good to at least see that studios are trying to come up with good applications of the tech.

In particular the hand gestures for the Fable game while yes it is still on rails the spells being cast at least appear to require more complex gestures than shown before. Maybe it's not the year of Kinect yet but at least it's showing some promise now.

Rumor: new Microsoft console dev kits at EA [update: EA disagrees]

@Assmar
BF3 is probably the reason why EA got one of the first new dev kits, even beside that fact of who they are!

Saints Row: The Third character creator available early with Red Faction pre-order

I think this is a great idea that more developers should take advantage of. In many games (like RPG's) you almost always have to first create your character when you first put in a game which to me is a major drag.

Having a way to create a character before launch has the benefit of giving players more time to invest in creating characters in addition to allowing gamers to go right in and play on day 1. Bravo THQ!

I would agree that of all the omissions that have been cited HL2 is the biggest one to me. I guess that may be because the game is known more for it's narrative/storytelling than it is for its art style.

Dragon Age: Origins PC servers experience 'unidentified failure,' DLC unplayable

Apr 12th 2011 2:10PM (Joystiq)
I played my Steam version of Dragon Age origins last night and I had this problem as well. I've seen it before and thought it was just me. I was logged in but all my DRM was unauthorized which meant I couldn't load my save, a huge pain in the butt.

I had to close and reopen the game a couple of times but it started working eventually last night around 12am EST, so I'm glad they fixed the issue but obviously disappointed that for while I couldn't play content that I paid for.

Phineas and Ferb to visit the 2nd Dimension on Wii, PS3, DS

I'm seriously bummed there won't be a 360 version, this would e perfect for my family and it sucks that a family game excludes a major platform.
