It might have helped if there was a big Update button. Keep it simple and obvious rather than making it just a link.

I'm with Mike in using dropbox. It's beautifully designed and simple to use which you could never say about Foldershare. Since Foldershare stopped supporting Windows 2000 I don't know if they have revamped the interface but it was a pig to use even for the power user.

It's not multi-touch by itself, it's Microsoft's ability to make a decent OS that just works which Vista has brought into question.

Yes journal is a good feature. I would otherwise use twitter to quickly log notes and details that later I might aggregate into an email or Basecamp message. And it reminds/focuses you on what you should be doing.

They don't have a clue about making products that people want. That's their problem. I'm not a Mac fan particularly but Vista has clearly made people think again about Windows.

If there's one thing we know for sure, Windows 7 will be buggy as hell what with legacy support issues and new interfaces to deal with.

I'm quite impressed by the new Backpack and the latest journal feature.
I was using Basecamp but for three people it was actually overkill. Backpack is far better suited to a small team in terms of managing internal resources and making lists on semi-static pages.
If you really are just after some kind of space to function as an intranet then it really works rather well.

AFAIK the single-user account hasn't changed much and they do have a paying Solo account. The move to focus on multiuser should mean more repeat business for 37Signals - individuals are more capricious than small organisations.

I suppose this is the expected ethical behaviour from a company whose every action has potentially devastating effects on small companies.

Still it's odd that while they could code up free replacements for any existing app, I don't see that Google actually have a convincing history of compelling design. I love Gmail and Calendar is nice but in other areas beyond search I don't see where Google have actually innovated.

I have a few notes on Notebook but the interface is soulless and clunky. Google Apps has it's uses but for regular work a desktop app remains the preeminent tool.

The problem for 37Signals is that someone not employed by Google codes up a Campfire replacement on the new platform.

I would welcome competition in this area. I'm not looking to dump Backpack etc but some of the pricing is a bit rich for me.

I will use Vista if I encounter it in a future job but right now I'm sticking to Windows 2000.
My main objection is the DRM and really this sounds like a good time to seriously consider Linux.

Great, so they'll just keep giving us the usual total crap on Arcade.
