Verizon to offer unlimited voice, data, and messaging packages

Feb 18th 2008 3:05PM (Engadget Mobile)
Yeah, I jumped to Helio for their 3G unlimited everything $99 dollar plan. Quickly switched back to my original carrier (which is Tmobile). I may evaluate Verizon now. That is AWESOME. i currently pay ~$129/month at Tmobile, using UMA, Unlimited Data, 1500 minutes, MobileToMobile, insurance, tethering, etc. Got Rid of my land line. This deal is much better....AND i get 3G? Time to buy me that Tilt...

I'll wait to see what they say about tethering. If tethering is in (and no silly cap), i am an instant switcher. I was going to wait for Tmobile's Talk Forever(tm) (Hotspot@home) VoIP to come out in March....but might not have to now....

bad deal. i had an ocean during their previous December offer. Bad service. Surfing the web was nice, until you realized you could not download ANYTHING. whats the use of 3G and EVDO, when you cant download ANYTHING! you have to only use HELIO branded services!!!! No tethering, no nothing. I went back to tmobile quickly...

On a side note, i do miss the ocean's keyboard. Best Keyboard ever.

"Does the 360 have any XBOX parts in it to aid emulation?"

From my understanding, Microsoft actually recompiles xbox games (just binaries, so the link to the new directx library, and are compiled for powerpc instead of x86..usually a 1-10 meg file) for the 360 hardware so no emulation (or very very little) is needed. Because original xbox games used a custom form of directx, GPU access isnt a problem. It is a relatively simple process, but its not 100% because of the custom directx library and some things may not translate directly (very rare though).

Watch Kojima, Suda 51 and Mikami chatting, blowing minds

Being a developer myself (not a game developer), it was very interesting to hear the opinions of the guys behind the scenes. I guess purely from a gamer perspective it could be boring, there isnt any announcements or new game release hints.

It could be likened to listening to movie directors/writers talk about their industry on DVD extras. Not interesting, unless you are interested in how the industry works and what personalities exist (like i am), as appose to just watching movies.

PS3 available on BestBuy.com ... still

Jan 6th 2007 12:06PM (Joystiq)
Just to jog everyone's memory, The xbox 360 shortage wasnt over until around March of 2006. Here is a quote and some linkage:

"Regarding shortages, he said, "Within the next four to six weeks, anybody will be able to walk into a store and buy an Xbox 360." -Peter Moore

BTW-You could barely find a 360 until March.

People who think "No one has any money" are deluding themselves about the PS3. If someone wanted a PS3 BEFORE christmas during the shortage, what makes you think they just didnt save their money and wait until AFTER christmas. In other words....if they didnt save their money to buy a PS3 now, they didnt really want one that bad. This means the demand has dropped considerably or it was never there.

November NPD: revised data reveals current install bases

Damn! that www.vgcharts.org site has the Wii at 2 million, and the 360 at 6.47 million!

NextGenWars.com : Nintendo has sold 20.3% of the 360 sales in less than a month.
vgcharts.org: Nintendo has sold 30.9% 360 sales in less than a month.

Both percentages are pretty insane. But NextGenWars.com seems more correct for some reason, no?

Now saying that, here is an interesting anecdote: My friend just bought a 360 from microcenter, they are having a $100-off rebate. The clerk said they are having trouble selling the systems! It was strange, they said they had 750 units in the back, and only sold 50 or so since the rebate started about two weeks ago! You'd think they'd sell out in a day!

@TwilightKnight

Not that i would defend ">", so i will say this using the Wii numbers but Note that these stats omit Canada, Mexico and the rest of the Americas. Nintendo launched in the americas, and sold a bunch in Canada, Mexico, etc. Which is where the 600k+ number comes from for sales in the Americas.

It is consevable that 5 million 360s could be sold in those territories too.

Also, the PSP is WAY more popular in the US than Japan. Here in the US, people dont have alot of the portable devices that the Japanese have for watching movies and such (they have been watching TV and Movies on their Cellphones for over 4 years now). Not to mention the fact that homebrew/hacking the PSP is much more popular here in the States.
