Film Clips: Is Super-Spending By Studios Hurting Hollywood?

Jul 11th 2006 12:19PM (Cinematical)
I normally don't read the long articles here, but this one was very interesting. You can't blame the studios for churning out big-budget flick after big-budget flick. It's apparent that that's what the majority of the public wants; that's what draws them in to the theatres. In the end, the studios must bend to the whim of consumer desire.

Burger King: The Movie

Jul 11th 2006 12:12PM (Cinematical)
I would love to see a Burger King movie. I would love to write one. Given the current BK ads, the possibilities for something that's as out there and bizarre as Harold and Kumar (which was fantastic) just makes the imagination water.

A strange French PS2 ad hits the web for July

Jul 10th 2006 10:55AM (Joystiq)
That's a pretty nice ad. It's very daring and creative, and is something you'd expect out of a French agency, especially an agency that's part of TBWA's group. I bet if they entered it into a short film competition, it would win.

Monday Morning Poll: What is it About Those Damn Pirates?

Jul 10th 2006 10:52AM (Cinematical)
I agree that it's definitely Johnny Depp. Everyone absolutely loved him in the first Pirates movie, and he's been getting a lot of positive press ever since it was released. I guess it's one of those rare cases of an actor actually earning his pay.

Apple responds to privacy concerns over Dashboard phoning home

Jul 9th 2006 7:51PM (TUAW.com)
What I don't understand is why it has to check so often? Can't it just do it once a day? Or even better, have the user specify how often it phones home.

Incredible Hulk Director To Be Named Soon?

Jul 9th 2006 1:11AM (Cinematical)
Sweet, I've never read the comics, but I like the Hulk as a character, and I hated the last Hulk movie. I really don't care who's direting it, though, so long as it provides a fun time, with lots of Hulk smashing!

We Need Cheaper Stars

Jul 9th 2006 1:09AM (Cinematical)
I completely agree, with both the article and with jmchez's comment.

I don't go to a movie because a certain actor is in it, or a certain director directed it. I go to a movie because I think it's going to be entertaining, and the vast majority of people that I know does the same.

Today's lesson: don't mow the lawn while listening to your iPod during a lightning storm

Jul 7th 2006 4:08PM (TUAW.com)
I had to laugh out loud when I read this, not because of the story itself, but because of all the cold, cruel, comments that followed. I'm as much of an Apple fan as the rest, but could we, perhaps, spare at least a little bit of sympathy for our poor, senseless-and-now-equilibriumless, redneck friend?

Maybe it's not food that's making us fat?

Jul 6th 2006 12:31PM (Slashfood)
My first reaction on reading this was to laugh, because the list does seem absurd, but after going through the comments here, and thinking about it for a whole two minutes, it's starting to make more sense. Yes, eating junk food and not exercising contribute to weight gain, but our bodies are incredibly complex machines, and there are likely other factors that contibute to being overweight. Why can't the things listed here not be some of them?

Jason Isaacs Wagers His Child's Eyeballs

Jun 26th 2006 12:08AM (Cinematical)
I guess you'd have to call me lazy, then, because I've enjoyed the Potter films, but have no interest in reading the books. However, I'd prefer to consider myself being "laid back".
