Rosemary Harris is Aunt May AND ...

May 31st 2006 12:40PM (Cinematical)
Maybe she's doing the voice or something.

Rare to unleash Pinatas on 360s this holiday season

Love it. Love it Love it Love it. Everyone complains about the lack of innovation and risk-taking on the part of Western publishers. Well, I wouldn't call this "innovative", really, but it *is* a risk, and it looks like it'll be a damn fine sandbox game, great for kids and casual gamers.

Fight Night 3 slaps a shiner on the PSP

Feb 23rd 2006 1:12AM (Joystiq Playstation)
There are screenshots up on Gamespot, IGN, and the EA Sports website.

I spent all day playing it yesterday, and it is phenomenal.

Ad-supported Xbox 360 Live: yay or nay? (a Joystiq poll)

Jan 31st 2006 5:21PM (Joystiq)
If it's free access to Live Gold, then hell yeah I'd put up with ads. Why not? As long as they don't force me to watch the stuff (by, say, running a 30-second spot before I connect to Live or after a game ends), then it's no skin off my bones. Advertising is not the tremendous evil most gamers would like to think it is.

Pigs fly! Get eight hours of play on a PSP!

Jan 27th 2006 7:54PM (Joystiq Playstation)
The only thing about perpherals like this is that changing the UMD becomes a nightmare. That's why I like the Datel solution, because the hard drive/extended battery leave the umd slot accessible.

iTunes video playback lackluster, at best

Jan 26th 2006 1:29PM (TUAW.com)
The problem is probably with your machines or, even more likely, some third-party software you have running on there. I have an old 1GHz eMac with 1GB of RAM, and it has no problem playing videos of any type. The only time it pauses is at the start of the vid, when it's loading it up, which is understandable. After that, it plays smooth as silk.

Make your own PSP stand using a toaster and $.25

Jan 25th 2006 11:06AM (Joystiq)
If you don't want to do any heating and all that, you could always do what I did and make a stand out of Lego. Lots safer, easier, and more fun!

What are these coupons for, anyway?

Jan 22nd 2006 10:25AM (TUAW.com)
I believe you can use them if, say, you bought iLife '05 a couple weeks before iLife '06 came out. You'd send them one of those coupons, along with your receipt, and they'd upgrade you for free.

At least, that's what I've heard. I've never called Apple to find out.

Bruckheimer considers Prince of Persia movie

Jan 13th 2006 5:17PM (Joystiq)
Oded Fehr could work. He's done the heroic arabian thing before in The Mummy, and fit in really well with it.

I'm surprised that the Prince of Persia movie is still "under consideration", because, from what I understand, it's been on Bruckheimer's table since last summer or so, with Jordan Mechner himself as screenwriter. Just things have changed since then.

Gamers anonymous

Jan 11th 2006 12:07PM (Joystiq)
I used to be a gaming addict, to the point of skipping school, and ditching friends, and calling in sick to work to play games. But, I grew out of it, and now I play games only when I've got free time.

As to that "Sunk Cost Fallacy", I'm guilty of that. But, then again, I guilty of it with everything I buy. There's nothing wrong with it, as far as I'm concerned. Getting your money's worth from the things you buy is your right as a consumer.
