Talking Mavs

May 6th 2008 12:35PM (Blog Maverick)
Mavs don't have to win a championship next year, only 1 team will but they should not dump their players at a low point when they have at least a competitive roster. Who wants to see the Mavs back in year after year dump of non-playoff teams rather than at least making the playoffs? Certainly not Dirk Nowitzki, or Jason Terry, or Bass or Howard or Dampier, all players proven to perform above average at their position and to produce winning seasons.

Cuban is correct, with cap room and cash, a couple key moves can turn a team quickly and change the whole look of the players, just ask the Boston Celtics and Keven Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce. From losing teams to the top of league in 1 season. Just ask the Lakers, who went from Kobe wants out to Kobe is MVP in less than 1 season.

Yeah, the trade looks pretty bad right now I still give Mark Cuban & Donnie Nelson the Mavs MVP award for keeping the Mavs in the hunt several years running...

Xbox 360 is April's top selling console

May 17th 2006 2:15PM (Joystiq)
Read any articles on this month's sales and it's clear that people in the industry know these are very strong sales numbers for 360 including having several of the top ten selling videogames for the month. Keep in mind the higher price point on both hardware and games as well the fact that many of the biggest titles have not hit and this is not the Christmas season. Most sales will occur in the holiday season.

As the article states "The big question is, can Microsoft maintain their momentum through the summer?"
Clearly they understand this is strong momentum and the question is if MS can maintain or build on that momentum.

As for PS2 hardcore gamers don't always grasp that millions of people don't even buy a new console until what they consider the END of the consoles lifecycle. Mainstream gamers will be buying next-gen systems starting 3 to 7 years from now, along with their new HDTVs and when the costs are much lower.

Right now is the perfect time to buy a nice new PS2 as far as most parents and casual gamers are concerned because they don't buy the latest hot stuff.

Rumor: MSFT's E3 plans include $100 HD-DVD

Apr 22nd 2006 1:26PM (Joystiq)
#47 HDMI is not required for HD DVD format movies to be played but the movie studio has the option to put a special flag (ICT) in the movie so it displays at a lower resolution if HDMI is not used. The lower resolution is 540p which translates to being about 50% better than standard dvd but lower than full HD.

Almost all Hollywood studios have said they don't intend to use this flag, at least not anytime soon, so if your HDTV has component but no HDMI you will still get the same high definition resolution.

NeoDigits' region-free HELIOS HVD2085 does HD-upscaling on the cheap

#22 I have the 70 inch Mitsubishi with component only and have the similar issue. I just got the 2085 and the video quality on DVD is outstanding.

Perhaps it won't pass for a true videophile but to my eyes this standard dvd playback is very much like watching hbo or showtime hd channels on direct tv.

This'll work fine till I think hd dvd (or blu ray) are ready, and even then it'll still work fine.

Nothing shallow about DoA. Try competing against some good players and get a clue.
