Personally I think PAX will be a good solution for all these people yelling and screaming about the "failings of E3."
However, all the people that have beef with the ESA's decision seem to be the people that had no businessat E3 in the first place. You are the people that have been making game journalists crazy when their trying to get actaul work done. E3 is for people in the industry to get together and share thier stuff with the media and each other. If you're not in one of hose two groups, but want to get your geek on with thousands of others, then PAX is where you should have been going anyway.
PAX is for gamers.
E3 is for those in the industry.
Neither has ever proclaimed anything different.
PS, I am not in the game industry, in any fashion, and have never been to E3.
Man, I don't get it. All I hear is complaints about how bloated and "too big" and rediculous E3 is. Then the ESA comes out and says O.K., let's fix it. Then all I hear is OMG! E3 Cancled! End of the gaming industry! Will anyone even show up?
From my understanding it was mostly at the request of the big three that this scalling back even happened. Of course they'll be there! Statements like "Microsoft and Sony have been less decisive in their response" seem to reflect a fundemental misunderstanding of the ESA's intentions for the future of the show.
Its still a long ways away so who knows what will happen in the meantime, but I really don't think that much will change. Smaller booths. Press only. Same show.
It'd be nice to see some hardcore offerings... Coalesce, or older Cave In. (Newer Cave In wouldn't be too bad either, its just not really hardcore.) Earth Crisis' "Gomorrah's Season Ends" would be tits.
Tool, why not? One of those songs in 13/8 time or whatever would be nicely chalenging >D
This is almost as good as the time when the news broke that the analog attachment for the (then) Revolution controller would also have an accelerometer in it. (Which was really exciting news.)
But the pros at Joystiq, just saw the words "nunchaku attachment" in the story. (I might add that this nickname for the analog attachment had existed for months and months, since day one even. Iwata used it in the controller announcement speech as I recall.) They took that and "broke" the story that the Rev might have a LITERAL nunchaku attachment, COMPLETELY MISSING THE REAL STORY ABOUT THE ACCELEROMETER. I just about pissed myself laughing. I highly encourage everyone to read the original post (it was later fixed as this post surely will be), along with the story it links. You'll be simply amazed.
I swear it’s like these guys don't know the first thing about gaming. If mistakes like this were infrequent or even small, maybe we could understand... but MAN! It's just inexcusable.
Or maybe this is some lame attempt at trolling? ("Hey guys watch this... I'm gonna call it a Gamecube controller! Watch all the Nintendo fanboys scream and complain! Ha!")
Who's knocking Blade movies? I love 'em. But my point is there are several levels on which to enjoy something. I can't expect Godfather level acting or cinematography from a Blade movie. But I also can't expect torrents of blood and exploding vampires (an occasional necessity for this movie goer) from a Godfather movie.
The same principle applies here. Production value is not directly proportional to amount of fun to be had watching (or interacting with) said production.
Its funny how everyone seems to have different things they "hope it is" and "hope it isn't." I hope they just make a game according to thier own vision and do something I've never seen before. This is on the right track for that, so I'm excited.
The voice acting does suck... but I have no problem with that. You just have to appreciate it on a different level. Like a Blade movie. :)
Alot of us are still holding out for 1080p despite cable networks. 95% of what my tv does is games or movies, and both will be all over 1080p. Plus as the line blurs more and more between the internet and cable solutions soon we'll download our tv and I'm sure 1080p options will be aplenty then.
To the issue tho, HD is still very much an elite market. And doing HD well is even more elite. It won't be popular until there are no SD tv's to buy.
Also its not so much the size of your tv that alows you to appreciate HD, but the size compared with the distance you normaly sit from it. The differences between a 30" hd tv and sdtv are not going to be that noticable at 15 feet. And even if it is to you and me, it won't be to our moms and grandmothers. And there's still alot more of them than us.

It'll be nice to see what the justification is.
