BandFuse: Rock Legends attempts a music game with real guitars ... again

Feb 22nd 2012 4:50PM (Joystiq)
Agreed. I got Rocksmith even after Joystiq's bad review and have loved it ever since. I have copies of Skyrim, Uncharted 3, Battlefield 3, and MW3 gathering dust on my shelves because of Rocksmith. Lag has never been an issue - just plug in the red and white cables in addition to your HDMI and set up the PS3's audio output accordingly. Thankfully they patched some of the annoying issues (5 lives in riff repeater, Tom Petty crash, added Set Mastery option). The only complaint I have about it is that DLC cant come quickly enough.
I welcome any new similar game, although Im not crazy about the interface. Hopefully ONE of them will stick and continue to deliver DLC for years to come. Right now I hope its Rocksmith.

PS3 firmware 2.52 fixes text entry, some playback issues

sorry PopFrog. Not about to spend 500 on a new TV just so I can spend another 400 on a PS3 just to get PS3 exclusive games. Thanks for the negativity though!

PS3 firmware 2.52 fixes text entry, some playback issues

How about fixing that pesky 1080i scaling issue? Seriously, I have a 1080i only TV and I wont buy a PS3 until NONE of the games get downgraded to 480 for me. Who wants to play Resistence in 480 on a HI-DEF TV?

EA sports SURF. Like Skate but for surfing. There hasnt been a decent surfing game since Kelly SlaterPS, and SEGA isnt releasing Soul Surfer to consoles.

Valve makes patch for Team Fortress 2 lag on 360

"That's only because the physics for Half life are better than real life physics. They're that good."

Yeah Im really disappointed that when I stack a box on top of another one in real life that it doesnt shake and twitch uncontrollably.

Valve makes patch for Team Fortress 2 lag on 360

I cant play HL2 without getting sick to my stomach. Ive read up on it and people have blamed the Field of View (75 degrees instead of 90) and the lack of camera bob. PC users have the option to change these but on 360 they are fixed settings. I dont know if this will work or not. I think the game is kinda wonky. I feel like I get motion sickness when my body expects motion to happen and it doesnt or when the field of view moves when my body does not expect it to. I think the physics engine (stacking boxes) causes it as well - I expect the boxes to move in a certain way but they dont. Why are we still stacking boxes in games anyway? This is revolutionary gameplay?

Real-time ray-tracing on the PlayStation 3! [update 1]

Apr 5th 2007 11:56AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Ray tracing basically means that you determine the color for every pixel by shooting a ray through it (mathmatically - not literally) when that ray hits an object in 3 space it determines the color of that object by the properties of the object itself and by bouncing that ray off of the object and repeating the process. Often times the ray will hit an object and create multiple new rays depending on the properties of the object. For example if the object is made of glass then a reflective ray will be generated as will a ray representing the light that is let through the glass. The process is recursive, meaning that you can keep bouncing rays off of objects till your hearts content. The process is very computationally expensive.
What we are seeing here is a single object rendered by ray tracing by 3 PS3s. This is a long way away from having a ray tracing engine which can handle complicated scenes in real time.
What is impressive about this is the potential. Since Cell processors are starting to be manufactured en masse, what is to stop SONY from creating a next-generation PS with 50 cells in its next box? We have effectively reached the limit of the computational power that we can achieve on a single processor - distributed computing is the way that we will achieve performance in the future.

IGN says: Oblivion looks better on PS3

Feb 9th 2007 2:35PM (Joystiq Playstation)
is it really that shocking that the game looks better after an additional year of development time? I dont think that you can infer that the PS3 is a superior box from this information.
Yeah Im stoked for Virtua Fighter 5 also - Im bummed that I cant play it right now, but not enough to shell out hundreds for another machine. Enjoy it PS3 fanboys.

X360F Poll: (Insert game) killed my 360! [update 1]

Aug 21st 2006 12:33PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I had the same experience as Gombard. Zero Corpse Id love to be a PS3 fanboy but the simple fact is that Im just not. I love my 360 - I want it back soon. I bought it on launch day and had no problems with it until SF2 came out. Shortly thereafter my box would freeze and then not restart with the 3 red lights. I was very irratated to have to pay $129 US to fix a faulty piece of hardware that is less than a year old. I am an adult and I take excellent care of all of my electronic equipment as well as my game discs. I never had a problem with the box until a few weeks ago. I guess what I am saying is that this could happen to you as well - so if are still able to - purchase the warranty. The 90 day Microsoft warranty is a joke.
