Carbon Games formed by Fat Princess devs

Jul 5th 2011 5:57PM (Joystiq)
the number of posts on here about a new development team being created from the remnants of an old one is pretty astonishing.

dear joystiq: please create a tag for this type of post so we can watch as they pile up. if you do, i'll go through and make a list of all of them for you so you can retroactively tag them. :)

The educational potential of class-based achievements

Jan 6th 2011 4:35PM (WoW)
i thought about this before, but there are a couple things preventing this from being viable (compared to tf2).

first of all, and this is something that should have been in place since the beginning, achievements need to be account-based, not character-based. it's ridiculous that blizzard would expect people to get achievements on multiple characters. what's the point?

secondly, in tf2 it's trivial to switch classes. it's not like classes in wow, where having an alt of a different class is a ton of work. if they add class-specific achievements, and someone was trying to get all the achievements, they would "have" to roll 8 additional characters. a bit extreme.

i definitely wish there could be class-specific achievements, but those two things make me think it won't ever happen.

cave story is the best indie game, hands down. if you're a fan of sotn-style castlevania or super metroid-style metroid, it is impossible to not love cave story.

super meat boy is also very well done. there is a free flash version available online.
