Do you think anyone outside of Joystiq, Kotaku, Gamefaqs, etc. even knows this happened? - I'm sure most people with a PS3 still think it's whatever stupid excuse Sony originally threw out there.
Even if this story did get picked up and broadcast nationally via mainstream outlets, I'm pretty sure John Q. Public's brief, first and only thought will be "those babies won't get to play their toys"
