Sony PlayTV getting Facebook, still no love for stateside PS3 owners

Apr 15th 2010 11:29AM (Engadget)
@Chris DPSN AggieCEO XBLThe Aggi

They aren't, or at least not in its current format. The broadcasting platform the PlayTV uses isn't used in the US (DVB-T). It would need to be a whole different box.

UK moves forward with game tax relief

I'd just like to point out that this was a pre election budget, meaning if the Labour Party don't win the election, which in all likelihood they won't, this measure won't go ahead.

Nice to see them trying, though.

Dhani Harrison: Rock Band 3 will make you better at actual rocking

Nov 7th 2009 1:36PM (Joystiq)
Sadly, I have to say that I got into drumming because of Rock Band.

But it also gave me a huge head start. Of course my technique, my holding of the sticks and my knowledge of the sounds that a drum kit were awful, but it gave me a huge head start. I could play a basic 4/4 beat from the start.

In guitar and bass it is quite obvious that you cannot learn anything from Rock Band, but with drumming it really did help. I am also a pianist, so I guess that may have helped in terms of rhythmic skill, but even so Rock Band helped a lot.

Dhani Harrison: Rock Band 3 will make you better at actual rocking

I was thinking that they'd include some sort of vertical scrolling thing that simulated sheet music, a bit like what they do with vocals but a bit clearer. That and an improved instrument could really encourage you to actually learn songs.

Drumming is already very close to being a very good replica. As a drummer, I can say that the rockband pads are awful, but because I'm British and don't have £200, I can't get RB2 drums (with cymbal add ons) nor can I get the drum rocker, but I'd imagine it could be quite hard to differentiate between cymbal lines and tom tom lines, so they could do with improving that. Sheet music and plugging in own MIDI instruments would be a huge step forward.

Impending postal strike means early Windows 7 for some Brits

Oct 20th 2009 2:11PM (Download Squad)
Just FYI it's not a 48 hour strike. From BBC News:

22 October: Limited processing, movement and collection of mail

23 October: Limited delivery and collection of mail

Some managerial staff and contract drivers will be brought in to move mail but services will be "very limited"

Special Delivery and Royal Mail Tracked items will still be delivered on strike days

Post Office branches will be open as usual although collections will be affected

Parcelforce will operate as normal as it has its own collection, distribution and delivery network

You can also do symbolic links for folders like safari bookmarks, etc. Very cool although does require a bit of time to organise them all.

And because I have no shame:

iPod nano 5G gets a teardown

I really don't get the superfluous apple hate going on in the engadget comments system at the moment.

Apple make good products. So does Microsoft. So does Sony. So do most other technology companies. Get over it. If you don't like apple products don't buy them

I also really love dropbox. Just persuaded my schools ICT department to unblock the site, so now file sharing between my two houses and school is fantastically easy!

Referral plz? As I'm sure you've read above you get 250mb extra free storage!

NES Joystick Test Cartridge lands on eBay, complete with lowest replay value ever

Unfortunately CleverEndeavor is kind of right, but being a bit of a jerk about it. Technically in maths you shouldn't use a comma as most countries use the comma instead of a period as a decimal pointer. (Pretty much just UK and North America that use a period)

But, THIS IS A GADGET BLOG SO IT DOESN'T MATTER!
