Analysts sound off: What does Blu-ray winning mean to the PS3 and gamers?
Jan 10th 2008 6:49PM (Joystiq)What's there to figure out about HD downloads on live? It tells you it's in 720p, hows that hard to figure out?
You throw all these #'s around like your the only one who understands tech. News flash, your not. Your a prime of example of someone who thinks they know tech and doesn't, it's hilarious listening to ignorant console gamers talk about HD.
If you really knew what you were talking about and enjoy HD then why invest in an HD screen, for if you really wanted a "true HD experience" you'd do it on a pc monitor that KILLS any HD set you can pick as far as resolutions go. You talk about 720p 1080p etc, because that's all most of you know about. Remember, HD gaming is new to consoles your just now experiencing resolutions pc have long since out grown.
@Vidikron,
I've been on XBL since it's beta days and this past week was an anomaly at best. No one said XBL is perfect, to the contrary, but PSN isnt' even close. The smart thing would've been to at the very least copy the main feature set of XBL, something that is proven and works, and go from there.
I'm glad your enjoying your PS3 more power to you, yet you call me a tool and your main selling point for a supposed game machine is to watch blu-ray movies?
I'm sorry, but whos the tool?
Your 3rd party argument holds zero weight, apparently you having seen the sales of 3rd party software on 360. They run better, look better and overall add more value, on the 360.
Achievemnets are a part of that equation. I may not matter to you but millions of people big to differ and for the 2 people I know who own ps3s they don't play because it lacks the software, they allways buy the 360 version when it comes down to it.
Not to mention unified online options that actually work and a reliable online community 10million strong.
The only part of your argument that does stand up is system reliability. MS hardware sucks, agreed. However, did you say the same thing with the far worse problems with PS2 that sony not only didn't acknowledge, they never compesated anyone. I know I had 4 ps2s over the years. Funny how fanboys forget that.
I'm a tech guy as well, so i'll ask you a question. How is blu-ray enhancing your gaming experience? I'm not talking about the future Valhalla of gaming sony keeps promising. I'm not talking about blu-ray movies, as that doesn't help your games. What game on the PS3 right now can anyone go buy and say with honesty "wow blu-ray really makes this game awesome", or "now that i've seen that game on a blu-ray disc, i'm gettin me a ps3"? You can't because they don't exist.
And yet you call me a tool...
As a gamer if sony puts up, i'll buy one but I want some serious changes. First I want rumble added back, which after saying that's last gen un-needed tech, their adding it back. I'm not interested in home or 3rd party games on ps3. MS is a software company and I don't see anything coming from sony that points to any type of online equality with live. It's free, but you get what you pay for and for a ps3 owner to complain about $50's a year is laughable.
So that means exclusives, and there are only 2 I'm interested in on ps3. Killzone 2 and FFXIII. Those 2 games have my eye but not before those issues get panned out will I even think about it. I also would like sony to go back to gaming and hold back on the smack talk, i'm a gamer and that's what I want to buy a ps3 for, not endless hype and Spiderman on blu-ray.
I'm done with this topic, rant over.
Analysts sound off: What does Blu-ray winning mean to the PS3 and gamers?
Jan 10th 2008 5:01PM (Joystiq)No, I didn't buy and HD DVD player and wouldn't have for the simple reason that I buy a GAME console to you know, PLAY GAMES.
If I wanted a movie player, i'll buy one and with that being said, for the amount of DVDs I have i'm not starting my collection over. HD is cool for a visual feast true, and for that why buy into a whole new format when I can download which is the next true leap in technology for HD content, movies or tv, both of which I an get on my 360 when I see fit.
You may like Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and the like to each his own. However, none of those titles you mentioned has done anything at all to show me why after being told by sony that I would buy one (ps3) even if it didn't have games on it, why I should.
So first as a gamer I get insulted by sony and then you give me a mediocre titles to play with horrible online and tell me to wait for the "potential" of PS3 to be shown? If it's not at it's potential yet, why buy one until it's ready then? Furthermore, I don't know about you, but I don't like being talked too or treated like that by a company who wants me to give the several hundred $s so I can watch blu-ray movies.
Oh and play the occasional "not so mindblowing afterall" games available.
Whatever floats your boat...
Analysts sound off: What does Blu-ray winning mean to the PS3 and gamers?
Jan 10th 2008 4:02PM (Joystiq)Your absolutely correct.
Think about what you all have been arguing about for 2 pages now on a GAMING site. Sony and it's newest movie format.
Pathetic.
How about sony and it's lack of games?
How about sony insulting you for the last 2 years?
How about delaying games, over and over again?
Blu-ray has more storage space, how is that helping you with your games now? Are you that pathetic that you can't get up and change the occasional disc? When has that ever been a problem except for todays "gamer".
MS has it's issus for sure, RROD being the only one I have a problem with and even with that, how many PS1 and PS2 issues were there?, it's funny how you all forget that. Hey sony, what exactly was the failure rate on PS2s that they never released but the same people who hate on MS for RROD leave that one out.
Either that or your to young to really remember.
Gaming used to be about games. Now it's about how much movie support you can get. I from time to timde download HD movies on my 360 I admit. However that wasn't factored into the cost of the system. That didn''t stop MS on focusing on GAMES as it's primary, as such, Nintendo should definetly be mentioned for keeping it real.
We were told we need blu-ray for games. No we don't, you need an excuse not to get up and change discs is all. Almost 2 years in and i'm stilling waiting for this great future potential of PS3 and blu-ray.
All weve gotten is woefully underwhelming games, especially compared against the backdrop of trash talking and insulting gamers everywhere with lies and rhetoric.
I have a 360, i'm buying a Wii but for this gamer who hasn't missed a console in 20 plus years, the PS3 is where I draw the line. I'm not playng for a blu-ray player that just so happens to play the occasional game. I'll get my HD from download on XBL if I want it that bad. From shows and movies i'm covered and if it's a blu-ray only, then I guess I don't need it that bad because i'm not biting that hook. MGS and GT5 aren't cutting it, and nothing i've seen on the horizon for the PS3 is worth my time or my dollars from a company that brought us "Toy story graphics" on the PS2.
Oh wait, that was a lie as well...
Games are about games, having fun by yourself or with your friends, great experiences and memorable scenes, not HD movie and overhyped bs. And as long as you let them do it to you, they will. Look at sonys comments over the lasst couple years and ask yourself, is your PS3 worth your respect?, You talk about getting screwed by MS but you don't feel screwed by sony? RROD happens true, but MS delivers on games and great content, without the insults and lies. You can keep your format "war" i'm going to keep being a gamer.
You remember what is don't you...
You
Publishers allegedly blackball EGM for negative coverage
Jan 9th 2008 7:06PM (Joystiq)The problem is most of it's fans wouldn't know good journalism if it kicked in the nuts. Repeatedly. These are the same people who watch the Daily show and thinks it's the news.
However we get what we deserve. It's considered the way to be to totally talk to and treat people like shit nowadays, weither your speaking directly to them or about them or their work. That's why I like GI. Not only do they actually have a gaming mag and not a coupon book, the reviews are worth reading. They don't try and necessarily convience you either way, they say what they tink good or bad, and they do it respectfully. Between Shande having Sonys cock in his mouth (that's why he sounds like that when he talks) to all the other crap over the years from 1up and EGM i'm glad I don't read there shit. I do like the podcast but even that's gettin lame.
Oh well, whatever.
Publishers allegedly blackball EGM for negative coverage
Jan 9th 2008 5:34PM (Joystiq)It's funny how some of you are so quick to jump on the "bring em all down man" mentality, like EGM is so heroic.
Bitch please.
Dan "shoe" Hsu allways does this soapbox shit. When its' convenient.
First and formeost EGM is fuckin garbage, has been will continue to be. Opening their mag is like opening your mailbox on Saturday and having all the Sunday fliers fall out.
And i'm not supposed to believe they NEVER get paid off?
Secondly if I were a publisher i'd have my PR guys say the shit like it is. It's one thing to right your opinion about a game giving the good and bad about it in an effort to give constructive critiscm. It's another thing to have a bunch of far left gaming "journalist" shit all over your game and think hes clever when he does it, when you've spent millions of dollars making it and peoples lively hoods are at stake.
Alot of times games that get shitted on we end up liking, everyone has. Thank goodness i've been gaming long enough to know what I like and don't have to rely on some jaded asshole to tell me what to like.
EGM is allways hyping shit for MONTHS with cover stories and the like and then they shit all over the game (after they got the advertising dollars I bet) then they have the nerve to act like they're hard core journalists. Case and point, the "heroic" Peter Moore interview, the one where IMO he was a dickhead, regardless if Moore thinks so or not (what did you expect Moore to say) it's funny how he's the only one who got grilled like that. If he had true integrity, he would've gone after all 3 of companies for faults and follies with the same zeal he did with Moore.
Fuck EGM 1up and especially "shoe". If I was a losing hella money, possibly even to lay off staff do to lack of funds all because a group of so called "talented", "fair" gaming journalists kept shitting on my games, being dishonest and downright being assholes about it, i'd say fuck you to.
MS memo claims 360's record success in '07 and a next-gen victory
Jan 8th 2008 2:22PM (Joystiq Xbox)Granted, KZ, MGS and GT are going to be AAA's for Sony, but then what? All the 3rd party stuff is coming to 360 as well. I would argue that most gamers, myself included, outside of the PS3 club are far more excited about what's coming up for MS this year.
The reason being is that besides previously announced games for 360 this year, those I mentioned earlier, MS seems to have a goal of introducing more original IP's that i'm interested in, Alan Wake being a prime example. Hopefully Project Offset will make it this year and despite what the haters say, Too Human will be huge.
The futures bright for 360, I don't have any worries at all. Last years E3 I think hurt Sony, the whole show was about what's coming in distant future, not what you can buy now, which is why MS shined, I knew that sometime this year I could walk into the store and buy the games I wanted and not have to wait for "future potential" coming from Sony. Why buy a PS3 now if the "big guns" don't hit for another year?
Oh yeah, so I can watch Spiderman 3 on blu-ray.
Fuck that.
MS did exactly what they needed to. E3 last year shouldn't have been about 08, it should be about whats crackin soon. I can't wait until E3 this year, it will be awesome for all 3 companies. Allthough I hate Sony, I wish them well for gamers sake. Nintendo and MS will do the damn thang, and for that i'm pysched.
In conclussion, I would just warn people not to shit on MS, they know what they are doing and a company like MS is going to bring their A game. MS is playing for keeps, make no mistake about it. It's a good time to be a gamer, no matter wich side you fall on, i'm just glad to see Sony getting their asses handed to them by the big N (poetic justice?) and MS.
MS memo claims 360's record success in '07 and a next-gen victory
Jan 8th 2008 12:35PM (Joystiq Xbox)Sooner or later someone will bring up the fact that the 360 isn't selling in Japan, yada, yada, and to that I say, big deal.
Japan is not the monster in gaming that it once was. The fact that the 360 is doing so well without Japan is
evidence enough of that fact. MS tried in Japan and for whatever reason, be it nationalism or "lack of games" it really doesn't matter.
The market there is in cell phones and handhelds, consoles don't have the hold they once did, witht the exception of the Wii which is kicking Sonys ass left and right, not to mention the DS. Nintendo knows what MS knows, that gamers want games and not blu-ray players that play the occasional game. Again, MS is getting stomped in Japan but they don't need Japan to win. The money is in the states and in Europe and to that affect the proof is in the pudding, at the pudding has a green X plastered all over it.
MS memo claims 360's record success in '07 and a next-gen victory
Jan 8th 2008 12:23PM (Joystiq Xbox)How can any of you say "oh, 360 doesn't have any games to compete this year, Sonys bringin the big guns"
What big guns are those? Fuck MGS and fuck GT. You mean you waited almost 2 years for that shit, for those 2 games that everyone raves about for PS3 is supposed to be the be all end all saving grace for the PS3? Get real.
No disrespect to Kojima and Polyphony, they put excellent prodoction values into their games, and as a gamer I respect that, even though I don't like the MGS series and GT while impressive to me isn't fun, game recognizes game and for PS3 owners I guess they should be excited that finally there movie player will get some AAA games.
With that being said, i've been gaming for a very long time and for me i'm not buying a PS3 for blu-ray movies, I want damn games and Sony doesn't have them. Period. There are millions of gamers like me who would love to have a reason to buy one, but with no interest in blu-ray, no interest in the MGS series, and not to mention the multiple insults to Sonys customers over the past couple years in reference to the PS3 and PSP, i'm not biting.
360 has the games, and they have an EXCELLENT lineup for this year, only you haters don't see that. With the announced releases such as Ninja Gaiden, Too Human, Alan Wake, and the games yet to be announced, Halo Wars you can run the list. Not to mention 3rd party support is much stronger on the 360 than it's rivals, i'm not stressing at all.
In conclussion, the 360 is poised to kick Sony in the nuts again this year, with a steady stream of great games and some AAA's. As a gamer, I support Nintendo as well, they make great first party stuff that's fun. Fuck Sony. I don't like being insulted, lied to and screwed over by being forced into buying a damn blu-ray player that I don't want. Hell, most of the movies I can download in HD on my 360 anyway so whats the point? You wait almost 2 years for Sonys promise of "the potential of PS3"? Fuck that, give me games that warrant the shit talking and high entry cost and then we can talk.
Rant over.
Fable 2, Alan Wake and more confirmed for 2008
Jan 7th 2008 6:11PM (Joystiq)Regardless, it will be a great year for gamers, 360, PS3, Wii and DS. I would love to know what the unanounced games will be that the artcle refers to. Another good year for 360, now if I can find a Wii i'll have the 2 consoles I need to keep me going until next gen.
Devil May Cry 4 for PS3 gets achievements, required installation [update]
Jan 7th 2008 4:23PM (Joystiq)Is that the best you can do?
I spell it blue-ray to mock it, since it is you know, a BLUE-ray.
Secondly, you can have all the storage space in the world, but what the hell is it doing for your games? You can watch blue-ray movies, but it doesn't make the games any better. 2 years later and your watching fuckin movies and talking about potential, give me a break.
Enjoy your stock in Sony as that is the only thing from Sony that's worth a damn because there gameing system sure as hell is passing the test thus far. I'll wait until they have a reason for gamers to buy one.
