Fanswag: Gears of War 2 Combustible Map Pack DLC
Dec 19th 2008 1:04PM (Joystiq Xbox)Consumer report: Gears of War 2 Combustible Map Pack
Dec 16th 2008 12:01PM (Joystiq)People complained about those maps prices too. But theres some differences between than and now. The difference is, those maps clearly weren't made along side the core game. Like these maps clearly were. Halo also has forge to work with. So the packs added more than just the maps. Foundry in particular essentially allowed people to make their own map.
Consumer report: Gears of War 2 Combustible Map Pack
Dec 16th 2008 11:58AM (Joystiq)Gears 2 Combustible DLC now available
Dec 15th 2008 10:34AM (Joystiq Xbox)--------"I'll pass until their free. I love me some GoW2 even with the MP problems but $10 bucks for 3 maps one being recycled is a little steep. Too be honest Epic should eat the cost of it for the problems.-------------"
Thats if the maps are ever re-released for free. Although such actions, used to be quite common among MS games, XBL subscribers have proven to be completely willing to pay one sixth of a games price, for far less then a tenth of the content. And a even smaller fraction for the assests and labour involved.
Even when it leaks the developer didn't want to charge anything for content to begin with. People will still buy rip off content packs. I remember just over a year, and a half ago. The second Gears map pack was released, four maps for 800 points. Many people were pissed with the price. They warned, I warned if we bought it, it wouldn't bode well for future map packs for games. Well, now just a year and a half later, we are paying the same price, for three maps. Ones a remake, all were almost finished when the game went gold, all are partially on the disk when it shipped. Yay?
Im done with buying any DLC, untill some one releases a pack that when compared to the core game, has the same or greater per dollar value. None of this getting ripped off by a price thats 10-50% overpriced. Hopefully you guys do the same. Its better this bubble (because thats exactly what this is) pops now, rather than later.
Gears 2's reign short lived, Halo 3 tops Xbox Live list
Dec 3rd 2008 2:11AM (Joystiq Xbox)Is this self induced BS, or Microsoft induced BS. Your right, publishers and developers pay to keep dedicated servers running for shits and giggles. They take a few thousand hits to the pocket, so that they can laugh malevolently, as people expecting less lag, are met with more.
Server based games ARE less laggy. Servers do = better. Thats an uncontestable fact. With peer to peer based games, crappy hosts are selected. Hosts have other people on their network using up bandwidth. If a person has older equipment, they're connection quality will be lower. In normal circumstances, who cares. They may get the odd lag from time to time. But it doesn't really effect anyone else. But if their connection host, well now all of a sudden the hole game is laggy. Because their shit can't handle hosting a game.
If a person has a computer full of viruses, and spyware on a computer plugged into their router, every game they host is lag shit storm. Then theres host advantage. All of the abilities to cheat, that come with being connection host.
With dedicated servers, you have servers thats sole purpose is to be used for hosting games. Hence "dedicated". Theres no bandwidth being used on limewire, or by viruses and spyware. Theres no host advantage. No bridging people out of the game.
Theres two negatives to dedicate servers. Every once in a while they crash. And when that happens you can't play that game untill its fixed. In addition, some pubs/devs in particular EA, shuts down servers when a game doesn't have a big gamer population.
Wha? Halo 3 takes top of Xbox Live
Dec 3rd 2008 1:44AM (Joystiq)Locusts infighting? You mean, like...I don't know the Covenant infighting that started in Halo 2?
Halo has one of the better stories in video games. The Halo SCI universe is the source of a lot of compelling books. Your inability to keep track of events is pretty irrelevent as far as im concerned.
Gears of Wars story, is average. Better then a lot of the crappy microwaved stories we see in games. But still not at the heights you seem to see it at. Don't get me wrong, GOW2s story was more ambitious. It accomplished more then the firsts. The investment was worth it. But lets not go overboard here. Theres still more logical holes in Gears of War 2, then the average heroes episode. So its safe to say its still "unsatisfactory".
'Unusual' World at War DLC scheduled for early '09
Dec 2nd 2008 4:52PM (Joystiq Xbox)You know I could, at length, explain why thats non sense. Instead im just going to say, NO.
GTA's 'The Lost and Damned' sold as $20 'token card' by Gamestop
Nov 28th 2008 11:43PM (Joystiq)There PR department better be holding some serious punches. And they better deliver a lot more then I expected.
They better add a lot more in the way of weapons, vehicles, multiplayer gametypes and activities then I expected.
Seriously 40$ is a LOT for DLC for a year old game. This is going to be a tough sell. Rockstar better go all out, or this is going to be a bust.
Would be nice if they added Staten Island, and the rest of Jersey city as well.
Epic addresses Gears 2 matchmaking woes
Nov 18th 2008 1:31PM (Joystiq)Don't get me wrong, I think a fix is nessary. But I think people are being a tad unreasonable.
In any event, this Cliffy, is why big multiplayer games are having betas. Not glitches, not balance. The primary objective for betas are stress test. Not saying not having a beta was the epic failure of all epic failures. But just clarifying this is why devs have betas.
Halo 3's Orbital peeks from behind the curtain
Nov 17th 2008 10:19AM (Joystiq Xbox)Its November already, that exact statement has been said one or more times in every Halo 3 thread for months. Drop it already. Its not funny. And people will just mistake you for being stupid enough to seriously ask the question.
